We visited this place nearly every day that we stayed in Hastings...located in the Santa Neta apartment building opposite the bandstand on Hastings boardwalk, Artsplash is an art school and playpark for kids that also happens to run an excellent juice bar and small cafe serving gluten free wraps. The woman working at the juice bar is really friendly and serves up a great range of fresh juices and smoothies, which you can sit and drink on the shady, breezy porch or take away. You can add healthy 'extras' like spirulina or flaxseed fo an extra dollar.
From Monday to Thursday (I think), Richard runs a gluten-free wrap cafe on the porch. Honestly, these were by far the most delicious thing we ate during our stay...he does fish (eg flying fish, tuna, mahi-mahi, whatever's available that day), chicken or falafel (vegetarian) in gluten free cassava wraps, which are incredibly tasty, filling, healthy and well worth the very reasonable 18 Barbados dollars. You really get the impression that he cares about the quality of the food he serves...all the ingredients are fresh and well chosen. Just get there early-ish though...he starts serving about 11.30 but is often sold out in a couple of hours. On Saturday mornings, there's also a small farmers' market at Artsplash...we picked up some amazing banana jam and mango hotsauce, home-made oatmeal raisin cookies and some freshly baked bread. Artsplash is a very cool little set up, thoroughly recommended.
