“Can't wait to go back !!”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

Just back from 10 days at the Savannah and wish we had booked for 2 weeks!
We travelled with our daughter and 2 grandchildren 4 and 8 yrs old. We had 2 deluxe pool access rooms which were of good size and had coffee and tea facilities and they were always well cleaned. The pool access was wonderful. One suggestion would be If the rooms could lock from the outside - but just a small niggle.
The shower in one room was a bit hit and miss but not a big problem.
The king size beds were huge and super comfy and could easily fit 3 !

The beauty of this hotel is it's location and wonderful intimate feel. The beach was beautiful and clean. yes, it was a little rocky in the sea, but it was full of interesting sealife which the children loved. Take beach shoes or simply walk 5 minutes in either direction for pure white sand beaches. The hotel never felt overcrowded. There were plenty of loungers with no problem of people reserving with towels etc
Yes there were problems with the pool on our last 2 days but to be honest we spent most of our time on the beach. One issue that was a big problem was the surfaces around the pool area. They were extremely slippery when wet and even though there were signs warning of the danger, inevitably children do get excited and tend to run. Our grandchildren both had nasty falls as did several other children whilst we were there. It would be good to have non slip surfaces as when wet they were like ice rinks.
The food was excellent and plentiful with a good variety at both Rachel's and Drifters. The children's corner was a big hit with our grandchildren. A special mention to Jesse who was amazing with the children and set up a children's table so that we could eat in peace and the children loved eating with the other children.
Carol ann and Robyn were great at the kids club. There were usually two sessions a day 11 to 1 and then an afternoon session. They did arts and crafts and beach games.
Summary lovely hotel great staff good food we will be back.

We had a great stay at the Savannah, with only 1 or 2 niggles.
Room was adequate, huge comfy bed and very clean bedding, good range of furniture. Bathroom a little tired but always cleaned to a high standard.
Food was very good to excellent, with a wide variety of choice. Did feel that sometimes at Rachel's there was an inadequate amount of staff, so you did have to be prepared to wait at times.
Pools were murky when we arrived, but hotel closed them and replaced filters, which did the job and the water was then clean and inviting.
I knew before we went that the sea was rocky and full of coral, so didn't perceive this to be a problem, but I actually did miss swimming out from the beach. But heyho a short walk either way solved this.
Free shuttle to Cococabana beach is a must, gorgeous.....
Staff overall were very pleasant and helpful. Entertainment was very good to maybe not so good.
Main gripe was the towels, housekeeping took them away and never replaced them. 5 times we were left with 1 bath towel between 2 of us. Had to ask for beach towel to be changed time after time. A beach towel exchange at sea front would a simple solution.
Toilets at the Drifters bar were sometimes unusable. We did complain.
The hotel creates a warm friendly atmosphere, staff do go out of there way to ensure you have a good time. We were fortunate to meet some fantastic, friendly, funny people, holiday-makers and locals alike.
There were turtles nesting, and turtles hatching, turtles bobbing along in the sea, what a magical experience.
Fabulous holiday overall, hope management solve a few niggles to ensure a great hotel can become an excellent hotel.

Stayed here for a week between 14 Jul - 21 Jul with my boyfriend. /the hotel itself was lovely and clean and the pool surroundings were always kept clean. The staff were really nice and helpful, especially Romell the bar man. He really made our holiday more enjoyable. The food was okay - some things better than others. The beach was very pretty - the sea isn't really suitable enough to swim in due to the rocks. There's a few negative things about the hotel: a) there's only about 20 sunbeds around a small pool serving more than 90 rooms. b) the entertainment in the nights can be a bit boring.c) it's a very small complex. Overall I did enjoy my holiday and loved Barbados as a whole and I would recommend Savannah beach to others as it is very good for the amount you pay!

I hate doing negative reviews but if the idea is to help people choose then here we go...
The place was very pretty, right on the beach, slightly rocky, as described. The food was OK, some of it very good. The room had the features listed but was rather tired with taps, toilet fittings and hot water breaking down at various times. All of this is OK if you know what you are getting into and it is competitively priced. There are , however, two reasons not to go here:
1 The whole place is tiled in smooth ceramic tiles - totally lethal if it happens to rain or anyone has wet feet from the sea.
2 I say "from the sea" because the pools were closed. Once "re-opened" they were still filthy.
Fortunately we had a word with the Virgin rep as pools were high on our needs-list and they sorted out a switch of hotel with a minimum of fuss. Full marks to Virgin, here. More positively, Hotel staff were excellent, great location, rooms were generally clean.
Really funny letter to all guests from hotel management blaming the closed pools on kids getting in with dirty feet, too much sun-cream, carrying food and soil etc. I think they meant it though. :)
(Spa was also shut down but we had been told this in advance.)

Room Tip: Limited sea facing rooms and half of them (3 or 4) look over the main pool, with swim up bar. I imag...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. We at the Savannah Beach Hotel regret that your stay was not to your satisfaction and offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience you experienced. Our intent is always to deliver memorable and impeccable service that serves as lifetime memories to our guests. We understand your frustration with not being able to use the pool as we know this is a highlight of our property and high on the agenda for most vacationers. At this time we would like to take the opportunity to explain why we had to temporarily close the pool during your visit. The pool became discolored after some of our in-house kids were playing and placed stones into the skimmers which, in turn choked the skimmer lines. This resulted in one of the pumps being damaged and subsequently affected the proper filtration of the water. Once the problem was identified, it was rectified but due to the large volume of water in the pool it took a few days to fully correct the problem. In an effort to prevent a reoccurrence of the problem we did issue reminders to our guests of our house, pool and safety rules.
Once again we apologize for this inconvenience but took every corrective measure necessary once we identified the cause of the problem.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us; we truly hope that this will not deter you from visiting us in the future and allowing us to cater to your every need.

Just returned from a very enjoyable 2 weeks at the Savannah. Travelled as a family and found the hotel to be great value for money with all our needs catered for.
Accommodation: We had a deluxe pool access room &opted for the club upgrade which was a nice addition. Rooms are kept very clean and the bed linen is spotless. Yes things look a little tired if you look closely but honestly who spends much time in their room in Barbados?? We were positioned very close to Drifters which was handy in the day but could be a little noisy at night (PSY vibrating through your bedroom LOL) In fairness though the entertainment never went on that late and there were some talented singers.
Beach: Take your Dive shoes as the sea is rocky in parts and there are urchins.Walk the 10mins to the Hilton though and you have great surf for body boarding and velvet sand. Say hello to JRW the jewellery seller on the Savannah's beach- really interesting guy who will custom make items for you. Special mention to Jacqueline and Elsid who ensured we always had sun beds/drinks etc. The most amazing thing about the beach though is the Turtles - babies hatching and mothers nesting to be found most nights.
Food: Well cooked/presented with a good selection at all times(both at Drifters & Rachels.)Children's favourites available daily-hot dogs, chips etc.Chopsticks not open whilst we stayed.
Trips: We did Virgin Ahoy and Island Safari, both of which we really enjoyed. Donna the Virgin rep is a great source of information about the island generally. Visited Cococobana beach for the day too ,which as the shuttle is free is a handy alternative. Using public transport is simple and cheap -Bridgetown is about 10mins away for shopping. Use a reggae bus for a unique experience!. We were there during Crop Over (carnival time) which was an added bonus.
Kids: Excellent games room facilities and Carolynne & Robin from kids club are lovely. Swimming pools are ok but went green whilst we were there and had to be closed briefly, even though maintenance was done daily.
To conclude, Barbados is pretty fab, with very friendly locals, so relax in the knowledge that you've made a good choice and enjoy!!!!

What went really well -

Rooms - we were in 371 and 372 - the Ocean View Suites, they were amazing, we didnt need 2 suites, but that was the only way we could book, as a family of five. Having said that all the extra space, with 3 children did come in handy! The rooms were beautiful, the king size beds on the upper floor were so comfy and large. Having 2 balconys per suite, the small kitchenette, 2 toilets per suite and the lovely bathrooms were fantastic. To sit of an evening, on the balacony in their comfy sun lungers, over looking the ocean, listening to the entertainment or just chilling with a book, was perfect.

Food - I know people say there arent enough restaurants for an all inclusive etc etc, but we have found the variety and quality between the 2 (Rachels and Drifters) has meant over 2 weeks we havent been bored or concerned about the quality at all. This is a massive positive for us. We did eat at Chopstiks once, which has a $25 bajan supplement per person. Being honest i'm not sure it was worth it for the food, but for my husband and I to eat in relative peace in a wonderful setting and be attended to personally for the whole meal was worth it, a welcome change when you are on holiday with 3 children! We did eat at Rachels one evening when they were experimenting with a 'tasting menu' style we had 5 courses with alcohol matched for the different courses. It was delicious and a lovely experience :-)

Drinks - having carried out a taste test on my husband - he couldnt decide if he preffered the branded rum or the local rum, either way there is rum, lots of it and if you go off 'menu' as long as they have a local none branded equivalent they will make almost anything, so we enjoyed our version of a Long Island Iced Tea, which wasnt in the included cocktail menu. There is a machine for sodas, which you can help yourselves to and a coffee machine too, both in Drifters bar - we didn't realise until the second day so a handy tip.

The Beach & Pool - The beach is lovely, but has a lot of trees overhanging so has tree debris on it, but there are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas, carried for you by the lovely staff. The sea has a lot of coral and it will hurt, so we took aqua shoes after reading reviews off here. The coral is beautiful and brings with it a whole host of sea creatures including 2 Mummy Turtles laying their eggs one evening and numerous baby turtle hatchings. We did visit Carlisle Bay using the free shuttle on a Tuesday and Thursday - this is where you get beautiful calm waters and perfect white sand, worth it and you get 2 drinks included too.
The pool was green when we arrived, but was quickly sorted in a couple of days. Although I didn't see anything myself the behaviour of some children, thankfully the minority, did mean the note sent about children being supervised and not putting things in the pool, could have been true. But the rest of the holiday the pool was beautiful so who knows.

Excursions - we were on holiday through Virgin and Donna, the rep, was brilliant - she even took our 3 boys off to look for star fish during our welcome meeting, which they were very excited about. We went on Virgins Ahoy - A Catamaran trip from 9am till approx 3pm approx £200 for a family of 5. It was our best day, relaxing and included snorkelling on a reef, swimming with 2 turtles and then swimming in a beautiful cove, plus drinks and food. The boys in particular loved jumping off the boat into the beautiful Caribbean Sea. And we went in the Jeep Safari a perfect way to explore the Island in one day and the boys were kept entertained by our brilliant driver and the very off road, off roading bits!

Out & About in Barbados - you cant beat the buses $2 per person to anywhere on the island - we took the white 'Reggae Reggaes' to Oistins and into Bridgetown and the yellow bus to Holetown - certainly makes catching a bus in England look dull now...

Kids Club & Savannah Staff - As has already been said the staff are brilliant, so attentive and in particular a massive thank you to the staff in Kids Club - they are certainly better at remembering our names and what we like doing than we are! The housekeepers did a brilliant job too, our rooms were lovely and yes sometimes we got a random selection of towels, but it didnt matter! The only negative and it isnt about Savannah, but a small number of other children spoilt the games room by vandalising it during the evening when they were in there un supervised. Maybe families have to pay a deposit for the key to the room or a deposit for table tennis bats and balls etc as it did seem a shame that because of a small minority everyone was restricted.

The only even better if - could the meals and entertainment be advertised better, maybe in Rachels everyday, as that is where everyone eats breakfast and in advance, if only a few days in advance so you can plan around the super events at Savannah.

Sorry that was so long, but we have had such a brilliant time I wanted to make sure I covered everything and say Thank you! We will be back...!

Just returned from our first stay at Savannah Beach. We were there for 2 weeks and we had a great time. The Staff are excellent (special mention for Jessie and Shanice who deserve a pay rise as they really looked after us and especially our children). I was really impressed by the food. Waking up in England without my daily omelette has been a challenge. The rooms were very good and kept very clean. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. The only room for improvement is the swimming pool. On arrival both pools were clear blue (I can see this from my photos). Towards the end of the holiday it got quite green. We were sent letters telling us it was the children but I spent a lot of the time in the pool with the kids and in two weeks I didn't see a single child drop anything in the pool. The pool generally needs a bit of TLC and possibly some investment. If we come back to Barbados I would certainly go back to Savannah Beach.
