“Terrible - avoid!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2007

My wife & I chose the Godilonda because we wanted something special for our wedding anniversary, and the hotel looked great on the website, but not all that shines is gold.... Probably the best location in the pretty costal village of Castiglioncello, but the place looks & feels much more a serviced apartment outfit rather than a hotel - the decor is very dated, staff is unfriendly & unhelpful, breakfast is truly dismal (the worse I ever had!), and they do not have a kitchen so forget lunch or dinner (probably a good thing given the quality of the breakfast). To add insult to injury, the Godilonda is the most expensive hotel in the area!!
A resounding thumbs up for Castiglioncello, but Godilonda - no thanks!

Being a member of the leading hotels worldwide, but also happy to stay in a tent, if the situation warrants it, I have a rounded view of what is value of money....

The positives:

1. Fantastic view
2. The bar-man was very polite and served the strongest Whiskey and cokes I have tried since Malaysia Airways tried their hand at cocktails...
3. Attractive interior decor
4. Beach next door

Negatives:

1. The toilet stank such that the bedroom smelt like the London sewer system in 1850. Brushing my teeth was a stomach-inducing experience.

2. The local restaurants were full of imploite waiters who furnished the locals with a much superior level of service than the tourists. This is the first time this has happened to me in Italy and the last. You will see when you get there if you choose to ignore my advice! The food was mediocre, the cost was high and the wine list was appalling.

3. The lady who greets you into the hotel and then promptly throws you out for a being a few hours late in your departure (note, I had stayed there for 3 nights, so could not see the issue) should not being working in Customer services. Rude, opinionated etc.

In summary, you would have pay me £10 grand, charter a private jet for me and arrange a massage from a minor celebrity upon arrival, for me to consider returning to the venue again....although I'd still turn it down as the stench of the toilet and the smugness of the receptionist/hotel manager would be too much to bear.

My wife and I have just returned from a holiday at Villa Godilonda, the hotel is very quiet and private with superb views,it is very convenient for access to the town which is very pretty. The train station is a short walk away where you can get a train to Pisa and Florence etc very easily, and they run on time too.
Rooms were clean and staff very helpfull, we had clean towels every day.Dont expect too much from the private beach, its a bit of gravel and a few flat rocks, you will have to travel along the coast a few miles to find some sand, but well worth it.
The only downside was the breakfast, there was very limited choice and what little there was was of low budget quality.Stale croissants and bread, undrinkable orange juice,no friuit only prunes,We would stay there again but would go out for breakfast or buy to eat in the bedroom.
