“Sadly disappointing”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Went to this restaurant after a recommendation, but we were very disappointed. Yes, the starters were excellent, but the frito misto at 19 euro was mostly batter oil and calamari .and not good calamari either-we had a fixed price lunch in piombino including calamari for 15 euro, which was excellent. 2 little fried fish on top and a prawn. And why a cover charge? 6 euro for some uneaten bread seems a bit steep when you are also paying for water at 2 euro. And this in o tober, hardly the height of the season. Very disappointing. Pretentious? Just a bit. What a shame. Overpriced, too much piped soft jazz.

Reviewed September 26, 2013

Got in late, hotel suggested this was open at 10pm. Order red wine! Good list great prices, opening & serving of the bottle presentation was amazing! Excellent food, had great choices plus bread for our gluten free in our part of four. Had other options, but went back a 2 nd time because we enjoyed it all so much didn't have to dress

“Not that great...”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

Following many good reviews on TripAdvisor, we ate here on our last day in Castiglioncello. We booked a table and arrived on time. After being seated and handed the menu, we ordered our food and waited for a good 45 minutes.

The food was alright, but too expensive in our opinion. We paid 54€ for two people - one course each and two bottles of water. The waiters/waitresses didn't bother looking after us (empty drinks, clearing the table), and the place was stuffy and crowded. Not that great.

“Intimate venue for late-night dining”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We walked past this on our first night as it was completely empty but returned a bit later the following night and only just managed to get a table. This small but cosy restaurant was clearly popular with the locals as well as the regular tourist trade. The staff were charming and attentive. We were both tempted away from the main menu by the offerings of the specials board (gnocchi al salmone and pasta pesto e gamberi). The food was tasty and beautifully presented and, having had copious quantities of antipasti elsewhere, more than enough for us!

“Good food, horrible service”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We were here on a Thursday night in June. The restaurant was almost full and didn't manage to get food out at decent pace. The only thing that was coming fast was the fresh toast and then the bread. After that it was a good 40 minutes between each dish. No apologies or updates as to what was going on and why it was taking so long, it was so bad we almost left. The food was pretty good, above average I would say, but not the best in Castiglioncello. I would opt for one of the seafood restaurants on the sea. We tried Bagni La Baracchina and one other and at both the service was excellent and the food to die for! Then there was the added bonus of the view, which you don't get at Gargotta.
