Reviewed September 27, 2013

We have been to Pefkos 3 times and this is by far the worst stay, in fact the worst holiday experience overall!! Where do we start...

Rooms - We were located at the top of a hill, which would not have been a problem if the rest of the room was ok ...however it was not! The shower dripped out, it took me 20 minutes to wash my hair, the tv would only turn up to a certain volume which you could barely hear. Dont pay 80 euro for the air conditioning as it often turns itself of in the night, the beds are so hard I woke up with either back or neck ache everyday!! I usually slept on the sun lounger in the day as it was far comfier! I did report these issues only to be told there were no other rooms available.

Pools - The pools are very small not what I expected at all, but are clean and useable.

Staff - The English man on reception in the evening was very friendly and by far the best member of staff at this hotel. We ordered a drink at the bar one afternoon where the lady was very abrupt and rude. Therefore we did not buy another drink at this bar!

Thomson - We did not really see much of the rep as we spent as little time as possible at the hotel! However, i do not understand why we would get picked up for a 1am fight at 8:15 pm when other people we spoke to at thomas Cook were getting picked up at the same time for an 11pm flight??

Pefkos - Pefkos itself is a wonderful place with lots of bars and lovely restaurants. Also the beach is great and the weather was beautiful.

Overall we had a great holiday as we spent all our time at the Matina apartments, where we stayed the previous year! The pools there are great as well as the food and the friendly staff!

I would also like to point out that the rep Mickey from Thomas Cook is by far the best rep we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was always around to help us even though he wasnt our rep.

If you think we are lying about this review please go ahead and try for yourself! We have never wrote a bad review this is just the truth!!

Room Tip: Ask to be located at the bottom of the hill!

My wife and I stayed at the Pefkos Beach Hotel between 11th to 18th September 2013 We occupied room 103 which was literally at the top of the hill, with great views over Pefkos. The room was excellent with nice modern design.

The complex itself was welcoming with friendly and very helpful staff. It had everything you would need for a peaceful and comfortable stay. Within the complex there was breakfast served at the pool bar which was well priced and delicious.

Evening time could be spent at the Palm Cocktail Bar attached to the hotel which served right proper cocktails at a decent price and a comfortable place to chill. For an evening meal Nostalgia Restaurant within the complex was excellent. In particular the roof terrace in the evening.

Other recommend places to eat are Spitaki Taverna on main road . Great welcome excellent food. Enigma opposite the Palm Cocktail Bar. Again great food and super service. Artemis on main road nice atmosphere good food. Try the Greek platter great array of local food.

Finally if you wish for cheap and cheerful food through the day, you must try the Sea View restaurant on the road down to the beach. Covered in grape vines this is a lovely place with really good prices for food and drink. Excellent staff fab Greek atmosphere

We have travelled all over Greece for many years and we were really impressed with Pefkos and without doubt we will go back next year staying at the Pefkos Beach Hotel of course.

We have just returned after spending two weeks at the Pefkos Beach Hotel. The reception staff especially Ray and Andy were both very welcoming and enjoyed having a chat with them most days. We were placed in room 302 which is just above the reception area overlooking the pool area, we were not disturbed by any noise and found the room to be of a very good standard. We stayed self catering, although we went out every night to eat there was a basic hob if you so desired but the kettle and toaster in the room along with the fridge worked adequately. The beds were in our opinion very comfortable and the air conditioning was needed as the rooms did get quite warm. One night the air conditioning did pack up following a power cut but this was quickly resolved the next day. The resort itself is geared for families and couples, there was enough to do in the resort but we did take trips via public transport/taxi to Lindos and Rhodes Town/Rodos, both are worth a visit. We also did the 3 bay boat trip which was very good and also went to the Lindos Ice Bar, which was fun but felt slightly strange as it was only myself and my partner in the bar, could have done with some more people to make it better. Eating out was in the main very good, some meals were better then others but we found the most enjoyable meals were taken in Kyma Beach Restaurant, Coralli's and Terpsis. We did not stay around the hotel pool area as like another person has mentioned it did not seem that welcoming. We did find a fantastic pool bar called Eagli, which is close to the Rock Bar and boasts the biggest pool in Pefkos. the food here was very good, the staff were very pleasant, free Wi-Fi should you wish and a lovely location overlooking Pefkos. Evening entertainment revolved around eating/drinking, the Pefkos By night Bar had tribute acts most weekends, tended to sing mainly Abba to varying degrees of success but at least they tried to entertain their customers. I would have no problems in recommending Pefkos Beach Hotel or Pefkos resort to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: We were more than happy with our room, 302, which had a sea view. Although over the reception and po...

We've been to Pefkos on 4 previous occasions over the past 10 years and have always stayed at another hotel in the resort but on this occasion it was fully booked. But we weren't worried as Pefkos Beach had always received rave reviews and we had always been impressed with the external appearance of the hotel when we'd dropped off and picked up guests on our previous visits to the resort.

We booked a high floor superior room and e-mailed the hotel before we arrived to ask for a sea view. We expected to be allocated a room up the hill but instead were allocated room 306. We had a lovely view and despite our room being above the reception area we didn't hear a peep. However we would question whether the room was a superior room. We found the beds comfortable, the bathroom was good and on the whole the room was modern. But the kitchenette was very tired and the utensils really needed replacing. We don't go on holiday to self cater but do like to take breakfast on the balcony and on occasions go back to our room for lunch. The knives/forks, breadboard etc were really tired and had obviously had a lot of use. It wouldn't cost a lot to keep on top of these small things.

The cleaning was ok and our cleaning lady was lovely, but not all were as friendly.

We used the pool for the first 2 days but for some reason didn't like the atmosphere - we realise not something the hotel can do anything about but unlike on previous occasions on our visits to Pefkos we found quite a few of the guests verging on unfriendly. We don't want to make any life-long friends when on holiday but a polite good morning would be nice - many guests chose to walk past and ignore you. We also found the bar staff at the pool bar to be very curt. We felt that if we had stayed around the top pool or in the pool bar for most of our holiday and spent quite a lot of time with them, we would have probably had a different experience. But we don't go on holiday to eat and drink from midday - everyone to their own.

We're not bothered about entertainment in the hotel but some folks really like this when they're on their holidays and during our stay there there wasn't anything on offer despite advertising there would be.

The English chap on reception was really lovely, very helpful and always had a chat each evening before we went out. He managed check in very efficiently. On the flip side it would have been nice to have heard "have a good journey home" from the hotelier when we left but it was not to be - just one of the little things that affects the impression of a holiday.

The resort itself has changed very little. Eating out has gone a bit more "up-market" and we feel not for the better. The loveliness of Greece, we feel, is very much about it being very basic and rustic and we feel this is being lost. Having said that Hellas Gardens and Artemis are very good. If you want a really special night Philosophia (overlooking the beach) is lovely. Our favorite was the 2 Brothers. The menu is not as extensive but the staff are lovely and the atmosphere the same.

Finally, don't miss a return trip on the glass bottom boat. We've been on it 3 times over the years and it's still a really good day out with lots of laughs.

We realise that everyone wants different things from their holidays and whilst the hotel didn't spoil our holiday, sorry but we wouldn't return if we had a choice.

Room Tip: If you want a good view e-mail a month before you go and ask for a room up the hill. But you will p...

Okay, after reading the rose tinted spectacle reviews I decided the balanced approach would be best for me. So I hope it is a view you share. The bad things first. The decor is a little tired and dated. Those on half board basis get the standard evening meal menu unceremoniously taken away, and they are given a slightly less extensive menu. The air conditioning which is a must-behaved like it had a mind of its own on the last night. Seven day stays does not see bedding and towels changed daily; towels were changed three times though and bedding changed twice. Well that's the bad stuff. Hardly anything to get steamed up about. Now the good points. Staff are friendly, helpful and all of them speak English very well. The food is very, very good. The views from the hill top apartments - provided you ask for sea view are amazing. The maid creates works of art with the towels, so she must have learned that towel sculpture craft on a cruise liner. This is a great touch. There is no need to fight for sun beds and the pools are clean and present. We went to other hotels and used their pools also as in Pefkos everyone is welcome. My partner agreed that our hotel more than favourably compared with the others. We would not stay anywhere else in the resort. Pefkos is a wonderful place and it is easy to get to Lindos and Rhodes Town. Both of which are well worth visiting; particularly during the evening. Spend a fortune and go to a luxurious hotel which is totally self contained but isolated. Then you can just study the minute details of your hotel and nick pick when a kettle is plugged in near to a tap. Or spend far less than it probably should cost to go to Pefkos Beach and have the guarantee of a very pleasant stay in a welcoming resort. And if you ask, they will even move the kettle for you! My conclusion is that at this hotel the reality is that romanticism is alive and well, even if it is not quite wrapped in designer paper. We will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view or you may be looking inland at craggy but impressive terrain. Or you may not be...

We had a lovely holiday in Pefkos and the PFB is the perfect location if you want a central place to stay with everything to hand: its own supermarket, bus stop opposite, ATM a few metres away and taxi rank just along the road. The majority of Pefkos visitors are from the UK and if you are into Football and Sky Sports in general you will be happy, equally it is possible to get away from it if you want to, as did we. The hotel cancelled their Greek BBQ night in favour of England football which was a shame as we were looking forward to it but we went instead to the Lardos Greek Festival night which was great.

Map - We found the Pefkos Exclusive webpage and interactive map invaluable for locations of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, hotels and bus, taxi and boat information http://www.pefkosexclusive.co.uk/map.htm

Drinking and eating – We booked the B&B option and found the food and drink to be of good quality and was a nice relaxed start to the day.
The Hotel’s Nostalgia restaurant was very good as was snacks rom the pool bar. Other favourite restaurants were Anixis, Kavos and Flyers for lunch. Smile Garden set menu at €9.90 was exceptional value for money, especially the suckling pig. We stayed for 11 nights and didn’t have one bad dining experience or poor service, everyone is very welcoming. Drinks were always good and lovely and cold with excellent bar service at PFB from Michael. If you want somewhere soft to sit try the white cushioned rattan chairs in the Palm Cocktail bar, bliss after those hard beds! We also liked the little round shady terrace garden for a cool drink out of the midday sun. Worth visiting Eclipse bar for the high diving waterfall experience and Pefkos by Night for tribute acts – Dreamboats and Petticoats girls were really, really good.

Accommodation - We booked a superior studio and although ‘up the hill’ was easily accessible via the funicular lift. Ours was in the first block but those further up looked a bit of a further climb in the heat. We did climb up the steps ‘home’ to try and burn off the calories! We had emailed ahead for a seaview, which we did have as well as views of the mountains so best of both worlds but as we were on the ground floor they were partially obstructed by dustbins, cars, the lift station and a little tree slap bang outside our balcony! Not a major issue and we could still see the sea but if this is important to you I would request a higher floor. We were a little disappointed with the accommodation. Elements were on the shabby side, water drainage in both the sink and bath were poor, floor damaged in room, old fashioned TV but worst of all were the beds and cleaning. The mattresses are dreadful, very hard and uncomfortable and interfered with sleeping a few times each night. The cleaning was better some days than others but only parts of the mirrors were wiped with a smeary cloth with the remaining surface left with patterns drawn in the dust by previous occupants! On the plus side the room and balcony were a good size, sheets and towels were changed regularly and the public areas of the resort were spotless.

Pools - As families left for the start of term the second part of our stay was quieter with more availability around the hotel pools but I can imagine when at full capacity it must get pretty crowded here. The beach was lovely but was very busy for the whole of our stay so didn’t spend as much time there as we would have liked during the day, late afternoon was much better.

Sailing (lol) - Did the 3 bay trip on the glass bottom boat. It was a very windy day and we were a little worried but the trip went ahead. €20 each and included couple of drinks each. Was great fun with opportunity to swim. Funny Captain put his put down and we got soaked with spray, it was a laugh though, especially when he lost his hat and you had an ocean floor view of it sinking.

All staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful and special thanks to Louise who was great at breakfast and to the guys on reception for a swift check-in and their help and info during our stay. Thank you Pefkos Beach Hotel, wish we were still there.

I stayed at the Pefkos Beach with my Wife and 2 friends and found it to be a fantastic hotel.

I want to start by addressing a few complaints people have have made on here.

1) Lack of entertainment: this is a hotel, use as a base to explore, it's not a self contained all inclusive resort. Get out and enjoy what the Village/Island has to offer.

2) No one to take bags to room: If you want a bell boy... book a 5 star resort, (They took our bags to just below apartments for us).

3) Air con and Safe costs extra: Doesn't it everywhere?

4) It's close to the main road: Yes, but its the quietest main road I've ever seen. Hardly like being in Falaraki

5) Its on a hill. Yes it is... as in mentioned on the website of the Hotel and clear from most pictures. If you don't like hills, go on holiday to Holland.

6) There is no complimentary soap: So what, no one ever uses it, it gets taken home as a 'souvenir' where it gets left in a drawer and thrown away in a few months.

The only valid complaint that I have read on this site is that there is no welcome bottle of water, this on reading I felt was trivial till I arrived. Airport arrivals only has vending machines (which most people arrive on holiday with only notes, and when you have flights arriving at Silly O'clock in the morning when all the shops have shut and you are advised not to drink tap water a bottle of water was desperately needed. If not a free one in the room, at least have a fridge in reception to sell them

Anyway, enough of everyone else's complaints.

We stayed here for a week in September 2013, and arrived in the resort in just over an hour (quicker then stated in Thomson's Brochure) and was greeted at the hotel by Andy, the night receptionist. Andy was very friendly and helpful, got us booked in quickly before someone took our bag on the back of a van up to our rooms. This was up a steep hill but this is something we expected. Andy didn't push the sale on air con as some owners do, he told us to go to the room, see how it was and call if we wanted it switched on.

Our rooms were side by side and hidden with no view, as we didn't request a 'sea view' or 'pool view' we didn't mind this and with temperatures of up to 36°c at times, having a balcony away from the heat was very welcome at times.

Our rooms were clean, smart and although basic, all that we needed on a holiday to Rhodes. With so many fantastic restaurants you wouldn't need to use the kitchenette.

The pool areas was perfect for what we needed always clean, separate pools for kids and always enough sunbeds.

The pool bar was great value and never too busy. The Cocktail bar wasn't as good value for breakfast (same menu) but the hotel does tell you to eat at poor bar as cocktail bar does cater for non-hotel guests.

The Nostalgia Restaurant does produces a good meal at a reasonable price but only eat here the once, there are too many good restaurants to eat in the same place twice when in Pefkos.

The trips out offered by Thomson from this hotel were a good price when compared with what you could book independently and the Rep Nicki was not pushy with the sale of them as I have experienced with other reps (eg Thomas Cook and 2wentys).

Nicki our Thomson rep was fantastic and on hand for every need. She even found us the perfect location for our friends to get engaged. She took us there after she had finished work so that we could discretely scope the location and checked with the owners of site that we were ok to use it. This was above and beyond what she had to do and I know my friends are really grateful for her help.

As well as Nicki (Rep) and Andy (Night Reception) the other staff there were fantastic. Always helpful, friendly and happy to help with anything.

We went to this hotel as 2 couples (left the kids at home) but will hopefully be returning next year with the children (7 & 17 years) as we feel this hotel to be perfect for families as well as couples.

Room Tip: Please do read the Hotels website, it does advise you about the limited access to some rooms for tho...
