we stayed three nights in mvuu in liwonde then four nights at danforth on the lake. howard, michella and their son craig looked after us so well. the food was amazing, gournet three course dinners each night by candle light right by the lake, view spectacular, with great hospitality. rooms simply decorated but with aircon, great gardens and infinity pool. great watersport facilities- kayaks, wakeboarding, waterskiing, hobby cat sailing snorkelling and diving. a great place to chill out and have fun. would be ana amzing place to fill with family and friends.

Although slightly chintzy the setting for Danforth is as spectacular as the sunsets. Although I was the only visitor there the staff really made an effort to make me feel welcome and at home, even joining me for meals each day. Expensive by Malawi standards at USD150/night but this was fully inclusive and sitting by the pool watching the sun set will remain with me forever!

I can highly recommend Danforth Yachting in Cape Maclear. We spent 5 nights here. We intended to only stay a couple but it was excellent and didn't want to leave. Run by wondeful south african couple - it has a v family feel to it , lots of toys to play with - sailing the hobys around the island before breakfast ,followed by waterskiing and snorkelling and topped off with sunset cruise on 38ft cat. Excellent quality accommodation and best food we had in Malawi - might not be for everyone as it was quite active. Having said that a v nice couple arrived at the end of our stay who only wanted to dip in the lake from time to time and read their books in the shade and they were having as much fun as we were..

We got a boat transfer from cape maclear to Senga Bay - 45 mins in speed boat rather than 4 hours on bad roads - great ride and the best option of getting around.

We spent 5 nights at Danforth Yachting, in Malawi, arranged by Audley Travel. The setting was lovely, and with just 4 rooms, the atmosphere was light years away from a normal hotel. We all sat and ate together, with good wine and interesting conversation. Michelle, Howard and their unobtrusive staff produced three delicious meals a day, afternoon cake, sundowner snacks and constant tea and coffee!
As if that wasn't enough, the lakeside setting meant unlimited water sports for those who enjoy getting wet, including snorkeling, kayaks, water skiing, scuba and so on. We tried out some of these and our special treat was two local cruises on their ocean going catermaran Mufasa, including a stop in a pretty cove to swim among the fishes and then eat a meal on board.
We are not really into water sports but even so, found the setting delightful and the service superb. All of this in the middle of a fascinating African country. Have a look at the photos on their website- it really is as good as it looks!
