We were fortunate enough to spend a few days at Danforth Lodge chilling out after being on safari, dinghy sailing, learning to water ski, with amazing service and loads of laughs with the whole team there. We then spent five days on the yacht Mefusa with Howard, Victor and Dixon, which was an absolute privilege and something everyone should try. Massive fun, especially sleeping on deck as hubby was too claustrophobic to sleep in the cabin. Sorry about the pillow which blew overboard one windy night. Many many thanks to all at Danforth for an unforgettable experience.

Room Tip: all amazing

Beautiful and private location, warm hospitality and great service offered by Howard and Michelle, PJ and Penny, memorable sunset cruises, beautiful views on our hike, and an overall splendid place to chill for a few days during our travels in Africa.

From the moment of check-in, the staff was there to make sure we enjoyed every aspect of our stay; and we did – every minute of it.

The rooms are beautiful and the beds very comfortable. The grounds are lovely and impeccably maintained. Dining was a delight outdoors in view of the lake, so relaxing, and the meals were very good. We had a great time kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, and just “chillin”.

We'll always remember our time at Danforth Yachting on beautiful Lake Malawi.

Room Tip: The room we were in accommodated 3 people, and there were two bathrooms/showers - that was great!

Danforth Lakeside Lodge: Heaven on Earth

Situated on the shoreline of Lake Malawi, Danforth Lodge offers a breath-taking oasis of green manicured lawns with magnificent shade trees and lush plantings. A small infinity pool sits like a jewel on the edge of the property, overlooking the lake. The lawn is surrounded by the accommodations (all on ground level), a gorgeous thatched roof dining area, and opposite, a comfortable open air lounge, all with stunning views.

This magical setting is surpassed only by the gracious hospitality extended to the guests. The management team, Penny and PJ, greeted us warmly and showed us to our spacious room with a huge, comfortable bed, charging station and beautiful bathroom. They introduced us to the activities and equipment available for our use. Boating, diving and water sports are their specialty.

At sundown Michelle, the owner (with her husband Howard), joined us for wine and hors d'ouvres. As dark descended, we were all treated to a spectacular view of the full moon on the rise.

The food is delicious! We enjoyed three meals in our one-day stay - lunch made to order served with a generous array of salads. Dinner of local fish delicately prepared on a bed of spinach with side dishes. And buffet breakfast the following morning accompanied by cooked eggs or hot cereal, if desired.

The warmth of the staff and vigilance of the owners ensured our total satisfaction in this pristine setting. While exhibiting a high level of professionalism and attention to detail, they obviously love what they do. We would come back in a heart beat!

Danforth truly exceeded my expectations on every possible level. The one single, key difference between Danforth and many other similar operations is the total commitment to customer comfort and satisfaction delivered by Howard, Michelle and their outstanding team. Howard and Michelle are great examples of hands -on ownership. Always around, continuously checking that all is well with their guests, ensuring that needs are anticipated and fulfilled and ensuring that their team follows their example.

Location is superb, right on a beautiful stretch of beach with the lake only 50 metres from your room. The view out to the islands is just perfect and the stroll through the village of Chembe is interesting and enlightening.

Rooms are comfortable, spacious enough but not flashy and cleaned rigorously daily. All face the lake with a well tended lawn and small infinity pool separating them from the beach.

Food is excellent and varied and like everything else here, not flashy, not pretentious in presentation but has a strong focus on taste and quality. Mr Ryce is a great chef with a true focus on producing tasty food. Empty plates after ever meal the evidence! With early morning, pre-breakfast coffee prepared for you, afternoon tea & home-made cakes served daily and pre-dinner snacks all included you won't loose any weight. That's for sure.

Activities centre naturally on the lake and are many & varied. Truly a yachtie's paradise this landlubber was equally well catered for, enjoying long lazy days of sunbathing with the occasional dip in the pool to cool off. I ventured out in a kayak once and that was my exercise for the week. For the more active though there is a choice of every conceivable wind or paddle powered vessel at your disposal here in addition to cruises on the catamaran - try the sunset cruise at least once - it is unforgettable. PJ will take you snorkelling with the cichlids, feeding the fish eagles or out in the speedboat - whatever you want to do, it's here.

We had our 8 year old daughter and 15 month old son with us and I can't think of anywhere that has provided for them so well. PJ stepped in numerous times to give us a break from the younger one - always graciously and without being asked. Michelle took our daughter (with cooking ambitions) under her wing and had her cheerfully occupied helping here and there and making her feel very important indeed. Both kids had an absolute ball.

When I made the booking I thought it sounded a little expensive. I was completely wrong. All things considered, this is probably the best value for money I have experienced anywhere, ever. A trip from the UK to Malawi for a family is never cheap but I would have no hesitation in returning to Danforth again. Fantastic!

Room Tip: All face the lake, so doesn't really matter. Adjoining and connecting rooms great for families.

Just back from a 3 night stay with Howard, Michelle and the rest of the team at Danforth Yachting. The place is a fantastic spot to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Cape Maclear. There is plenty to do, the food is great, and the rooms are comfortable. It is well located on the beach so you are close to the action but still have plenty of peace and quiet. Snorkeling, kayaking and catamaran rides were a blast. What really sets this place apart though is the excellent service and engagement from the hosts and staff. We look forward to returning soon.

We had a wonderful time here at Danforth. Howard and Michelle obviously love what they are doing and Penny and PJ were the best! The food is magnificent and each morning there is a relevant greeting on the menu. We loved our stay here and would recommend it as a place to relax. We loved the fuss made of the couple who got engaged on their kayaking trip to the island and then again on the yacht!Thank you Howard and Michelle.
