I read a lot of negative reviews so I was not expecting a whole lot. There are not many choices around here anyway it seems. We got in very late and there are only two restaurants in town and both were booked solid. Even the gas station was closed. The night manager and owner opened the kitchen just for us and cooked us dinner. Come on, who does that? Super nice of them. That is five stars right there.. but I will go on...
The rooms were great: spacious enough with clean bathrooms and a nice shower.
Breakfast was good for 1500 krona. It had everything you usually get at Iceland hotel breakfasts. It has a hot tub and sauna as well and the price is fair.
I think the hotel has turned a page because I did not see any evidence of the negative stuff mentioned in previous reviews, at least for us.
The staff and owners were great, the hotel's location is great as a base and the rooms are pretty decent.

I have use the hotel several times in the past and it was good enough for me to book for some photo tours this year. I arrived in April with a small group. We had booked 5 rooms through our Icelandic travel agent. When we arrived it was dark and locked. After calling the owner, who blamed a booking error, we were stranded. Luckily the Foss Hotel in Stykkisholmur were happy to accommodate us. But this was at extra expenses, such as fuel and time.

The following week I arrived at the hotel after booking a room for a private photo tour. Again the hotel was closed and the owner refused to open. He doesn't deserve to be in business.

    Hello Tony P,

first of all it is not good to hear about this sad experience,

but we have e-mail history between our Hotel and the third party who made your booking, there you can see they

    cancel all bookings in April.

In April every year we are only open for groups and as this third party cancel, the Hotel was closed this date.

I understand your frustration but it should be aimed other places then the Hotel.

I will gladly send you this e-mail history as this clearly is cancel from the person who booked for you.

    Have a nice day:)

    Sincerely

    Kalli

A bargain Iceland!? Worth commenting on. The Framnes is a modest place run by a very friendly couple. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and adequate in size. There was a breakfast buffet included in the modest nightly charge of about $100.
No question that we would return. This town was also the only place we saw the Northern Lights- magnificent.

Room tip: No elevator, if that's an issue.

Our group of eight arrived after a long day on snowy, sleety roads to discover that the hotel was closed. When we contacted the hotel, they first claimed that they knew nothing about our reservation (5 rooms for two nights), and then that, in seeking confirmation for our reservation earlier, our travel agent had cancelled the reservation - because our tour was not going ahead due to lack of numbers. (This came as a great surprise to us - as we'd not had any problems with any of our earlier bookings - and there had never been any suggestion that we would not be travelling on the specified dates).

This hotel was chosen due to its great location. We were fortunately able to find great accommodation about an hour's drive away. Noting Des D's review that the hotel is "under new management", I wonder if they didn't want to honour earlier bookings. Leaving paying guests on the doorstep as a result is unacceptable!

We did wonder if it was an April Fools Day joke - even if it was evening... Unfortunately it was not!

We arrived after a long day of driving to find the hotel dark and locked. When we rang the number the person who answered denied that we had made bookings for 8 people for 2 nights and in a subsequent phone call blamed our travel agent. The travel agent confirmed that the booking had been made. The hotel just didn’t care. We ended up staying in a hotel an hour away. I would never stay in this hotel - ever!!! The lack of any concern for the 8 cold and hungry customers who were outside their door was astounding.
