Stayed two nights while touring West Iceland. Hotel isn't much to look at from the outside (but then again, few buildings in Iceland outside of Reykjavik are - they do have to withstand some pretty harsh winters) but very nice public areas and comfortable, spacious rooms. We had wonderful views over the sea (as well as the fish factory - don't worry, there are no smells). Food is excellent, with high quality evening menu and good buffet breakfast. Great base for touring the Snaelfellsnes peninsula. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and a great source of info on local attractions, activities and the state of roads!

Our family of four stayed at the Framnes Hotel for two nights in June, 2009. After a few days in Reykjavik, we wanted to explore a more naturally beautiful part of Iceland. We booked in advance and were offered a 15% prepayment discount. The cost of rooms is a bit high, but, as I'll explain, is certainly worth every krona. It is located in a small fishing village on the north coast of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, approximately two hours by car from Reykjavik. It is a fully-renovated hotel and restaurant, easily equivalent to a three-star hotel in the rest of Europe. It is owned and operated by English-speaking Icelandic hosts who excel in the hospitality business. The hotel is clean, quiet and well-appointed. Rooms are spacious. Flawless wireless internet is provided. The owners are happy to help guests plan their stay and are eager to insure guests' comfort and enjoyment. One highlight is an evening boat ride to a nearby island, where you will see many species of native birds and have an opportunity to catch your dinner on the way home. The hotel restaurant serves a menu of local cuisine, usually a fish and a meat entree. We found the food good but not a great value: with wine, four of us spent nearly USD$200 for a meal that did not excel.

The Hotel Framnes is an ideal base for exploring this very beautiful part of Iceland.
The owners have taken every step to insure the comfort of their guests.

The hotel was a great little place that had an extremely good breakfast. The sauna was nice but you have to let it warm up as it is not kept on 24/7. Didnt try the hottub but it was running when we were there. Rooms were a bit plain but clean with nice bedding. Shower was hot and solid water pressure. Overall a good hotel but a tad bit overpriced.

Were these people staying in the same hotel as we are? The people weren't unfriendly, the showers turned on, the lights worked... but this place is gross! It hasn't been redecorated since the 60s and probably been vacuumed about once a decade. There is no where to put your clothes, the chairs are uncomfortable, and the TV is perched on one of those arms that attaches to the wall... makes you feel like you're in a bar and you hurt your neck watching tv.
The hot tub was broken and the massage chair is in a really awkward location... who would want to have a massage right off the parlor? You need to give 20 minutes notice for the sauna, but they leave in the evening and (in the winter, at least) don't return until 9:30 AM! I went into the kitchen to make some popcorn and it smelled so bad I had to cover my face with my shirt. No way I am eating breakfast from there! Not worth anywhere near the 11750 ISK! That's about 100 USD nowadays... feel sorry for the people who paid before the conversation rate dropped. Better off couch surfing!
Quick note about location: it's next to a fish factory and from time to time smells as such. ALSO: the hotel was not full when we were there, but they booked us in a room looking over the parking lot rather than the water. Nice touch!

After a motley collection of accommodation in Iceland, this was fantastic at the end of the holiday. The room was large, clean , modern stylish and well equipped (TV , nice en-suite bathroom) and the family loved it. It was like being back at home but on holiday. That sense of relaxation and quality.

The staff are very pleasant and the lady owner very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very nice but one such meal is enough in a two day visit you may want simpler "fare" on the next day and we did. Though hey did make some simple children's meals on request.

This place is not cheap but as a treat for family in need a large modern and home like place this was ideal.

Tip - Book and stay here if you can !

This is a fabulous place. If you want a quite getaway, Grundarfjorour is for you - and this hotel is fantastic. I was on my own, and stayed there in a newly created single room for four nights in June 2008. I spent my days walking around experiencing the wonderful sights of this penninsula, which is the setting for many of the Norse sagas. The restaurant served great food and the atmosphere was very, very friendly. I want to go back.

We spent the night at the Hotel Framnes on August 30, 2008 and we were pleased with our accomodations. Our room was very comfortable. The bed and pillows were great. We had a nice clean recently remodeled bathroom and a spotlessly clean room. The room was large with a desk and a TV. This hotel offered everything that we could have wanted. We had a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant and the breakfast was very good.

We spent 8 nights in Iceland and this was one of the better places we stayed.
