“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed August 14, 2008

Just got back and this is a lovely hotel.
Both reception and bar staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was excellent although pricey (circa £50 per head) and if this is a problem you can eat at a nearby cafe on the main road which is popular with locals - I think it was called Cafe 59?
The view outside the hotels are a little mixed as you are next to the fishing port but this should not put you off staying here as the town has a spectacular location in a wide dramatic bay.
We went with teenage children and for once we had no complaints from them.

Almost any walk or drive from this town at sunrise or sunset will beautiful.

We stayed at the Framnes in August 2008 and found it to be a very nice hotel. Everything is very clean, the rooms have a reasonable size (huge by icelandic standards) and the scenery is beautiful. Food in the restaurant is excellent, way above what you would expect from a small hotel in a small town. The owners are very nice, always have a smile and time for a little chat. They really made us feel welcome.

I stayed here for two nights in a single room which I booked just by turning up at the hotel in Sept. 2007. The owners Shelagh and Gisli not surprisingly made me very welcome as I was the only person there on the first night, and only one of two bookings on the second. They have recently refurbished the hotel with an attractive lobby/reception area and rooms in a Scandinavian style with lots of bare wood everywhere. Lovely shiny bathroom with hot and very powerful shower. Breakfast was the usual cold buffet and absolutely fine for me. It's all very cosy and comfortable and I'd definintely stay there again.

The Hotel Framnes is about as good a small hotel as you will ever find. I stayed here last month.Sparkling clean, excellent food, highly interesting little town, superb scenery. Couldn't ask for more. I will be back. Owners eager to tell the history of the town, both good and tragic.

We really enjoyed a nice visit to Hotel Framnes in June. The hotel is in Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland near Olafsvik and not far from Stykkisholmur. I found this hotel on the web after considering several other places on Snaefellnes. The hotel is in a small town in the shadow of the glacier and several other impressive peaks. The hotel is right on the waterfront, in an industrial-harbor area. It is very quiet except for the calls of the seabirds.
The owners are a sweet, charming couple. He is a native of the town, and she is from South Africa. Since buying the hotel in 2006, they have made many improvements and renovations and I expect there will be more improvements in coming months. More importantly - the couple was very helpful and accommodating and gave us many suggestions about things to do. They also run the hotel restaurant and the food was delicious - I ate fish and my wife had a vegetarian dish. The room was quite large with a window far from the bed (which was good since the sun never really set!). The bed was comfortable and the shower/bath was clean.
We really wished we stayed longer here, especially after driving through some stunning scenery on the way back towards Reykjavik. There are lots of opportunities to hike and ride bikes in the area. It was about 15-20 minutes from Olafsvik where we went on a whale-watching tour. Glacier tours and Stykkisholmur are a little further away. There is a small golf course about five minutes away from town.
