“Staff nice - not too many whales”

Owner description: Laki Tours takes you on an ocean adventure in four different trips. Puffins galore can be spotted from the protected Melrakkaey island where thousands of other birds also nest. Sea-angling is the perfect family outing and gets even more exciting when you get to keep your catch. From Olafsvik, the Ocean's Big 5 tour promises excellent whale watching in deep waters at the foot of the majestic Snaefellsjokull Glacier. Winter brings the orcas, dolphins and white-tailed eagles. We take you to them on what is by now, our most popular tour. "We're living it!"

“Staff nice - not too many whales”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013 via mobile

We took the Lakh whale watching tour from Olafsvik. The tourist information called them to confirm they were going that day. We paid 89 krona for a 3 hour tour. The staff was nice but we spent a lot of time riding around. I would try this activity again and I would use this tour operator. The boat was clean and it had a WC.

I hope you find this review helpful.

“Orca's feeding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

A short walk from Hotel Framnes, our group was booked for the afternoon whale watching tour. On arrival we were given thick overalls to combat the cold although the day was grey and threatening to rain it wasn't too cold. A short distance outside the harbour and we encountered a group of six Orca's feeding on the herrings. While a couple of whale scientists were studying and photographing the whales the Laki tour guide was identifying by name the individual whales. The whales varied the distances from the boat as they fed sometimes coming in close. Non breached and only one tail slapped as they were too busy feeding. It was an interesting tour but remember the whales are here more for feeding than playing. Don't forget that the extra benefit of the tour is seeing the wonderful mountain coastline from the sea with a chance to take some magnificent mountain images with maybe a whale in the foreground.

“Orca Whales around your boat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

We visited Iceland February 2013 and managed to book two places on this trip from our hotel. The trips run form the Hotel Framnes, in Grundarfjordur, about 3 hours drive from Reykjavik. We were staying on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula (where the town for these trips is located), which is a very beautiful and remote part of Iceland.
The crew gave us wonderful all-in-one suits which kept us very warm on our two hour trip. They assured us they would see Orcas and we did. (I think almost every boat does!) They have a spotter who locates them so the boat approaches, but not too close. We saw about 16, there were two pods in the area, mothers and young, males, all showing different kinds of behaviour. It was a real privledge to watch and be informed by the guide what was going on. We could all stand throughout the trip and move around so we could get good viewpoints, all very laid back and unhurried.
We would really recommend this trip, well worth the money, the crew were all very friendly and we had a great time. Amazing views back to the shore with the moody snow-covered mountains behind!

“Fantastic for Orca spotting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

We drove 3 hours north from Reykjavik to get on their morning trip simply because they seemed to be the only company in the right area to get to see killer whales although they did not give any guarantee of this. They were really friendly, provided us with thermal onesies which despite our many ayers was really needed. We found that most of the other people on the trip had also been the previous day and were raving about the sightings. We went out from the harbour and it didn't take long to start seeing orcas on either side of the boat. We were already delighted - orcas. And alo many sea birds. But then they took us into a sheltered bay where we were simply surrounded by the killer whales including mothers with babies - fantastic. On the way back they provided us with some very welcome hot chocolate and home made buns. It was a great 4 hour trip, they didn't seem in any hurry to rush us back. Highly recommended

“Laki Tours - Whalewatching in Grundafjordur, Iceland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

I travelled with a Discover The World and we had three trips with this excellent Whale Watching company.
Thermal waterproof suits are provided so if the weather is rough (it was windy and rainy most of the time I was there) and/or your own gear isn't top of the range never fear. These suits will keep you warm and dry - although they restrict your movement somewhat.
The guides we had were from Discover The World and they were outstanding, but the Laki Tours crew were great. Their knowledge of the waters was very good and they allowed us to get close to the Orcas but on their own terms - never seeming to hassle or distrub them.
Obviously the Orcas were the stars - so many and so amazing - it was indescribable. But I would absolutely recommend Laki Tours as a safe, enjoyable, respectful and friendly experience.
