Owner description: Laki Tours takes you on an ocean adventure in four different trips. Puffins galore can be spotted from the protected Melrakkaey island where thousands of other birds also nest. Sea-angling is the perfect family outing and gets even more exciting when you get to keep your catch. From Olafsvik, the Whale tour gives excellent whale watching in deep waters at the foot of the majestic Snaefellsjokull Glacier. Winter brings the orcas, dolphins and white-tailed eagles. We take you to them on what is by now, our most popular tour. "We're living it!"

Ive been whale watching many times but often disappointed when we saw a blow and suddenly boats appear from nowhere and a dozen boats are chasing one rapidly disappearing whale.

grundafjord was so different, but I wonder for how long. we stayed at the Hotel Framnes, just a minute's walk from the harbour and owned by Gigli and Shelagh who also own Laki Tours. Its the ideal base if you want to be close to the whales.

The boat was well maintained and the crew were efficient and welcoming, they steered a course with our comfort and safety in mind, although you should be prepared to get pretty windswept.
We were never cold as Laki supply very effective waterproof thermal onesies that look awful but do a great job.

On our first trip we went to the next fjord and were surrounded by several pods and spent a couple of hours watching them, again, unlike other expeditions we weren't following them but just hanging out as they milled around, a very relaxed experience offering a god opportunity to get some great shots with a good camera.

On our second outing the whales were in Grundafjord so we didn't have far to go, there were less this time but they tolerated us for nearly an hour before moving away.

An exhilarating experience that no one could fail to enjoy and a good choice too if you are prone to mal de mer as the water is generally much calmer than open seas.

We went on the winter whale watching trip with Laki Tours on 18 January 2013 in the hope of seeing orca. The boat is fairly exposed but they provide excellent warm waterproof suits. The orca were in a fjord about an hour away and we got some great close up views, there were several groups around the boat, it was very much a case of not knowing where to look next. The staff at Laki Tours were very friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip. It's about 2hrs 30 min from Reykjavik but well worth the effort - we went on a winter whale watching trip from Reykjavik itself and saw nothing at all, not even a dolphin. In addition to the orca there were lovely views of gannets diving and flying beside the boat.

Shame not to see any whales, but we were on board for the fishing - which was great! We also squeezed in some Puffins. If at all queezy, don't fortget sea-sick tablets! There is invariably quite a swell.

saw lot of birds and the fishing was great. No whales as had been the case for the last few days. The captain and the operator do a very good job providing a lot of information on the area. Midnight sun was special.
