“Typical working guesthouse”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

There were quite a few locals staying when we did. The guest house is run by a very knowledgeable man who gave us great advise about the local sites and told us stories of events that had happened around town. The rooms are clean and reasonably sized, good kitchen and clean bathrooms.

I expected something with a little more character when staying in a place called "The Old Post Office", but although not particularly unique or quaint, the rooms were clean and we met several of the guests who were very friendly. The grocery store and local restaurant are within easy walking distance, as is the small beach. The views of the surrounding mountains are pretty spectacular.
The kitchen was good sized and well equipped, but the hot water heater for the shower must be very small. Several of us ran out of hot water, even when taking showers less than 10 minutes.

This was a simple, but clean guesthouse. The rooms didn't have much to them, but there was a nice, flat screen tv, free wi-fi, a nice kitchen, and clean bathrooms. There were not many other guests, so it was quiet and in a good location. We were able to walk to the grocery store and to the restaurant from the guesthouse. There were also great views. We only interacted with the front desk staff briefly, but she was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the simplicity and getting to hang out in the kitchen, talking to other travellers, and again in the morning drinking tea and taking in the beautiful view of the water and mountain. I would stay again if back in this area.

I was impressed with this place. It seemed really clean and there were great views from the windows. The kitchen and bathroom were pretty nice. The rooms have really good blinds to make sleeping easier and none of the other guests were too loud. It was an enjoyable place to stay in a nice little town.

Bare and white walls, very cold and uninformed owners. You can see they're trying, but it looks like running a guesthouse is not really their business. Really plain, un-picturesque, and anonymous. Great location though. From the (small) kitchen you could dine looking onto amazing views and the mountain in front of the bay.
Not recommended if travelling with small children (they're not well equipped in terms of cot and baby chair..)

We had a great view over the sea and the famous mountain from our room. That was the best part of the experience. At first sight, the buiding is disappointing and so is the way in... Despite it all, the rooms are great, all is new, light colours, and comfortable beds. Even a tv with channels in English.

Overall I didnt like two things... The kitchen and bathroom were shared by the 5 rooms in the floor, the kitchen was crowded and we always had to wait for the use of the bathroom. But I must say, they were in very good condition. Our room was next to the kitchen. Guests were careless and noisy, slamming doors late in the night or too early in the morning... There was lack of noise isolation and that was a problem.

The other thing was that we booked through Venere.com. In the info the price was in
Euros and when I paid it was in ISK. the difference turned out to be 15 € extra. I will never book with Venere again as I consider this cheating. when I use booking.com, they convert the price in
Euros directly into ISK at the time of paying, so you pay what you booked.

So all in all, I think this guesthouse is slightly overprice for what you get.

Room Tip: Nices view from room next to kitchen. The ones downstairs dont have much of a view at all.
