The hotel -
When we arrived (after 3 pm) we were shown to our rooms, but one of the rooms hadn’t been serviced. (They suggested we might like a drink in the bar while we waited, although there was no offer of a complimentary drink.)
Our rooms were in the main hotel building. (There is also another block overlooking the garden, which looks more modern and has balconies – I don’t know if the rooms in this block would be superior.) Being in an older building, the rooms are not standardised shapes and sizes; and the floors are not all on one level, so there were a couple of steps down or up to some rooms from the level of the elevator.
The décor of the rooms was quite pleasant, and they were adequately equipped (including a safe). The cleanliness of the rooms was acceptable (although I think there was a bit of room for improvement with the bathroom). The room got quite warm, and the (single) beds in our room seemed to have some sort of plastic mattress cover, which I found rather uncomfortable.
One room had a good shower cubicle (no bath). The other room had a bath with an over-bath shower, but no shower curtain or screen (not even a rail for a shower curtain) so it would have been very difficult to have a standing shower without getting water all over the floor!
The hotel has a nice garden, outdoor pool and tennis courts. It is close to the beach, although there is not much in the way of shops etc. nearby.
The restaurant –
There appear to be two restaurants – one at the front of the hotel (leading off from the reception area) and one looking out on to the gardens. I don’t know if they serve the same menu in both restaurants, but we were told that our meals would be taken in the restaurant at the front of the hotel.
We thought this restaurant was superb – in terms of the quality and presentation of the food, ambience and service (which managed to combine formality/professionalism with friendliness). As with most restaurants in this area, there is an emphasis on seafood, but there was a good choice; and they were very helpful in providing a suitable alternative to accommodate a food allergy.
The breakfast buffet (in the same restaurant) was also excellent.
