“A gem: sample the best of Mani life from the quiet of a hillside village.”
Reviewed June 8, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Clean, bright and tastefully furnished, this three bed villa overlooking the coast north of Stoupa enjoys stunning sunsets. Its heart of village location at Pyrgos ensures a genuine Mani feel from which one can make forays down to the coast from Stoupa or uphill to sample good fare and hospitality at mountain restaurants. We appreciated the helpful recommendations of Keith the owner. Neighbours were friendly and rarely seen; it was good to have Richard and Clare on hand in case of need.
We struck out south of Areopoli to see the mani village of Vathia and swim at Portu Caiyo, 1h30 each way but worth it as this area is even less developed. Kardamyli an artist haven.

“Delightful place to stay in the Mani”

We have just returned from a lovely week staying in Lemon and Lime Cottage along with our Greek friends (4 persons in all). Pyrgos is easy to find from the directions (we flew into Athens, then spent 4 leisurely days in the capital and driving down via Nafplion and Sparti, with plenty of interesting stops along the way - the roads are twisty but in excellent condition and the traffic is minimal - a wonderful change from the UK!... We returned via the toll-road from Kalamata - new, fast, empty and easy!). The cottage is lovely, as is Pyrgos - a quaint little village, with excellent views and a very nice little kafeneion - ideal for an early-evening drink... We were happy to relax on the terrace and BBQ in the evenings, but also enjoyed the swimming at Kardamyli (the best beach - Ritsa, which is stony - is just past the village going north - also a great taverna there under the trees...). Also liked Phoneas between Stoupa and Kardamyli. Had a great day driving down to the tip of the inner Mani - a very different landscape... Good places to eat everywhere - highly recommend the taverna run by the neighbours (with the burnt-out chimney) up in Saidona, and the taverna in the square in Kastania. All-in-all a perfect location to relax, but with plenty of things to do as well, and just outstanding sunsets... Highly recommended!

“Away from it all in Greece”
Reviewed August 24, 2011 for a stay in June 2011

Lemon & Lime Cottage is set in a very quiet village (Pyrgos) overlooking the coast (Stoupa) and 4 kms from it. You need a car!! The 'roads' in Pyrgos all concreted so it's easy to walk around the village but they are just the width of a ladened donkey so NO cars! The car park is 5 mins walk away. There are no shops in Pyrgos and just one taverna; there's a supermarket in the next village 2km away but we used the one in Stoupa.
Lemon & Lime is a lovely place: fully equipped, clean, well maintained, many info booklets about the area, quite a few flowers/shrubs in the garden and wonderful views from the balcony/sunroof to the coast. Owners are British so no problem paying for the rental and their blub is very helpful. There's plenty to do/see in the area with very little traffic: good beaches, good walking and the villages further inland are just wonderful. We were there for 12 days and could have eaten in a different place each night.
We flew Easy Jet to Athens and drove from there - allow about 4 maybe 5 hrs - roads are easy especially taking the 'motorway' route via Kalamata (if possible after 1hr stop off to see the Corinth Canal - amazin!!). Some people fly in to Kalamata airport but it's only open on Sundays. Roads 'North' of Stoupa are in good condition but further 'South' are a bit narrower and need more care/time.
Really enjoyed our whole holiday, easy to relax and, once there, no need to travel far.
