Kumsheen Rafting Resort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 7, 2009

Kumsheen is the perfect place to relax and raft! this was the second time staying with them and it will not be my last. the resort is tucked away in the valley in the interior of BC. they have several packages availible. we took the relax and raft package. you get 1 night stay , meals for the 2 days, one day of rafting and one day of relaxing. they have camping or you can rent either a tee pee or a canvas cabin. the small but good menu has options for everyone. the pool and hot tub are nicely appointed. they have beach volleyball courts, horse shoes as well as many other outdoor activities. the staff are very knowlegable and friendly. we did the power rafting as we had our 10 year old with us(paddle only avalible for 12 and up). wow did we get wet. some of us even got to jump out and float down the rapids in our life jackets. go and try this you will be very happy you did. cant wait to go back. just make sure you bring earplugs as trains are going by constantly.

Kumsheen is really quite unique. When you first arrive they have a main building with check-in and a store and a lounge. The check-in was very efficient and we were given our keys for the 2 tent/cabins that we had booked. Our cabins were located on the outskirts of their regular camping area. They are made out of heavy white canvas with a lockable door and inside each are 2 beds and a table, chair and each tent is decorated with a different theme using antiques. The washrooms and showers are in a building nearby and are shared by all. They were kept quite clean considering it was a campground. The scenery was spectacular and there were a few hiking trails nearby. The restaurant was surrounded by windows and served delicious, bordering on gourmet meals which were included in our package. They also had an outdoor seating area. The pool area was also well maintained and was situated beside the restaurant complete with a small bar.
The river rafting trip was an adventure that we were glad not to have missed. Since it was our 1st time we chose the motorized version which was so much fun. Their equipment was in good shape and the young people running the trips were enthusiastic and seemed well trained. The lunch stop was at their new building along the route and they had a great choice of fresh items to make your own wraps.
All in all a wonderful experience. The only warning would be that it is noisy at night because of the frequent trains passing by and the highway noises but they do have earplugs in every cabin.

recently went on a 3 day rafting trip through kumsheen. i've been on several other rafting trips in past years. we (4 of us) rented one of the cabin/tents with the two double beds.
the first day of rafting was a little dull for me. the scenary was nice and if you'd never been before, you might enjoy it. however, when i return (and i think i will) i will just book the two day trips. lower part of the thompson (paddle boat) and the day on the fraser (power boat).
the cabin/tent was very decent. enough windows to keep it cool, the beds could have used thicker mattresses but was not a big deal. enough room at the end of the beds for all of our "stuff". porch with benches and a table out front. they also have campsite available if you prefer to bring your own tent. pool and hot tub.
our package came with most meals included which i have no complaints about. good variety and we enjoyed every meal.
i cannot say enough about the staff. i never ran across one grouchy or impatient person. the restaurant staff was unbelievable one night as they scrambled to accommodate everyone inside the restaurant as the outside seating was obliverated because a downpour that went on for quite some time. they were running from the kitchen to the tables trying to keep everyone happy and 99% of them did it with a smile and laughter.
many of their staff have come back for several years which is a testament to any company.
there are CONSTANT trains in the area and this can be a problem for light sleepers. in the tent/cabins, they did provide ear plugs but if you have a really good set at home, i'd highly recommend bringing them. (and some good sleeping pills might come in handy too!)
all four of us, really enjoyed our time here.
