“Nice place right next to station”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

This hotel was literally right next the station. The hotel was very pleasant and clean and the rooms were well presented, hard to fault this place really. If you use the restaurant (see separate review) we aware of the 2 Euro per person cover charge.

Stayed here with my mother while travelling the fantastic Bernina Express. The hotel is in a superb location, across a square from the railway station but far enough that you aren't disturbed by trains. Breakfast buffet was standard fare, lots of fresh fruit, juices, cereals, joghurt and bread. The bread, unfortunately was pre-sliced and was therefore quite dry but there was plenty of it, as well as cake if you like your sugar kick! Coffee and tea from machines but better than nothing. The restaurant seemed really full and popular at lunch and dinner but we can't judge as we ate out.

Major let down was the freezing cold stairway and hallway to the rooms and then the incredible noise at all hours as people went up and down stone/concrete stairs. Try to avoid rooms 101/102 and the same numbers on upper floors! These back onto the stairs and you can hear every footstep and word spoken - we were lucky to have 3 hours sleep...

Bathroom was large and clean and the towels were fresh. The bedroom was comfortable and also clean if a bit stuffy; we turned the heating off in the bedroom!

Room Tip: Request (or demand) rooms away from the stairs!

Only visited the restaurant. The food was pretty nice with a good selection of what I would expect in an Italian restaurant and prices were quite reasonable. Nice atmosphere and friendly waitresses.

Spoiled by a head waiter who when I called his attention to the fact that what he had served me was not Penne told me that it was the house version, as if I was stupid and did not know the difference between Penne and Casarecce.

I don't care how good a restaurant is. Treating customers as idiots is a terrible as it gets.

Perhaps the worst hotel we stayed in during our three week europe tour.

Pro: location is opposite train station

Cons: untidy and messy rooms, our linens were not cleaned from the time last guests were there as we could smell their perfume on it, washwooms were tiny and worn out, breakfast was just a bunch of crap as even te coffee was from a vending machine, service at reception desk was extremely rude and the staff in tge dining area was not any better. Worst of all, our valuables were stolen (probably by staff or otger guests) and they did absolutely nothing to help us.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED BY THIS HOTEL. Pls save your money and dont stay here.

Two couples stayed one night between the Bernina Express and the Glacier Express trains. The location is perfect--just across the square from both train stations. That is where perfect ends. Rooms are small and worn. Our tiny corner shower with sliding curved doors to enclose you was filled with disgusting and unhealthy black mold along the door tracks and in the corners. We had a 2pm train out. But that morning at 7:30 the noise began in the halls with housekeeping staff yelling at one another. At 8:30 one of them knocked on our door and immediately started to enter the room to clean. They easily could tell whether we had departed because in the European tradition room keys are placed in open boxes when one departs the hotel even for dinner. Our traveling companions experienced the same problem. Breakfast was barely passable. Dinner was good, with a few vegetarian options, though service was slow and not attentive. One reviewer complained about being offered a room at another location.mi say he has no idea how fortunate he was.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere, or ask for one of the suites in their new building.

We were booked into the Bernina Hotel for it's proximity to the railway station for our trips on the Bernina and Glacier Express. To our surprise when we checked in the receptionist marched us around the corner and across two streets to what looked like an office building and up to a floor called Lady Jane Suites, assuring us that these rooms were more comfortable. This was areal shock and very difficult dragging all of our luggage along cobble stone streets. This broke one of the wheels on my wife's suitcase. We were given the Morroco suite. A Morrocan themed room, very comfortable that looked newly refurbished. It may have been a language thing but they need to improve their communication when they offer this "upgrade".

All in all a good stay except for the problems mentioned.

Nice hotel and perfect  location, above all if you need to take the wonderful Bernina train. This hotel is indeed in the central square of Tirano, just in front of the Retic Station. Cozy atmosphere. Room was confortable even if little worm. Even the restaurant was good and breakfast had a good selection and very kind personnel. Price slightly above average for a three star hotel.
