Mazamitla is well known to Mexicans as a place of great scenic beauty. High up in rolling hills, it can be quite a bit cooler than other towns in the State of Colima (and was the day we were there).
We stopped overnight en route from Zamora to Colima, and stayed at the Hotel Huerta Real. This is a wonderful facility, nestled in a beautifully manicured orchard on a hillside above the town. The service is friendly, and the rooms are large and comfortably furnished. During the off-season, when their restaurant is closed (which it was when we were there), shuttle service is provided to a restaurant in town where a free breakfast is served. They would like you to have dinner there as well; it's O.K., but it will be worth your while to look around.
If you have a few days during the heat of summer to sit back and read a good book, Hotel Huerta Real may be the ideal location.
