We read about this hotel in Lonely Planet and were very pleased by what we found. Its a small hotel just two blocks off the town square and the rooms were spacious and clean, while the rates were more than reasonable. My husband and I chose a king size room with a balcony overlooking the town and the rate was 500 pesos per night (approx. $40 at the time). Our visit was off season so I'm not sure in high season what the rates would be, but I'm sure they would be more than reasonable.

We drove from Manzanillo to Patzcuaro and wanted to avoid the coast road. We ended up in Mazamitla, a nice town in the mountains surrounded by pinetrees with old traditional Mexico taste. We contacted various hotels with no or late answers, so we just found the hotel a block from the square. The hotel is simple, but very clean, extremely affordable, great service, always willing to help. It is not a luxury hotel, but it is nicely decorated. We only found it a little cold and no mats on the tile floor. We liked it a lot, and regreted not having stayed a couple more nights to enjoy the outdoors in the surrounding mountain. The roads to get to the town from Guadalajara or Michoacan are a bit curvy, not touristy but safe, so this is the real Mexico.
