We needed a break and booked 3 nights at the Mhr, as it was very short notice, we could not get one of the new Suites, instead booked a Deluxe Room, also in the new part of the hotel. The room was amazing, all open space and a mix of modern architecture and traditional austrian design. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, from reception to SPA to restaurant! The SPA is on of a kind, absolutely amazing, the choice of different saunas, steam baths, pools and relax areas is huge. Even when the hotel is full and it is rainy outside and everybody seems to be at the SPA it never gets overcrowded. My favourite place is the lounge with the beanbags with fantastic views of the Zugspitze and meadows. Actually, thank god it was raining, so we did not feel guilty to just relax, read a book and enjoy the SPA. The choice of treatments is a vast one too, we had great massages, etc.! I am actually very impressed how the owners managed to integrate the old and new part of the hotel and SPA, the old part nicely renovated but still traditional and the new part very modern, but then again with bits and pieces from the Orient. The food: breakfast was delicious, there is a buffet with a very good choice, eggs are prepared à la minute if you wish. In the afternoon they serve snacks, salty and sweet, in the bar or the pool area. And dinner is either a 5 course dinner, or a themed buffet. The food was delicious, but don't expect a Gourmet temple. It is very high level, but cannot compete with the 50 best restaurant of the world. But that was not what we were looking for anyway. Healthy, fresh and traditional food is, what they serve. If there is something I did not like is the fact, that they would not leave your bottle of wine at the table, so you always had to ask to get some more wine. Very bad from a selling perspective too:-).
The activities in/around the hotel are countless, riding, fishing, diving, golfing, hiking, skiing, etc. The hotel owns a stable and three lakes. Never a dull moment for sure, you can get bikes for free and rent Segways or Ducatis. The reason it does not get the full five bullet rating is this ne: they allow smoking in the bar! And as it is open space, it smells of smoke in the lobby. That might be just acceptable in the evening, but when you get to the lbby in the morning and have those bad smells of cold smoke, it is a killer. I hugely recommend that they build a smokers lounge which is closed, they have space for that for sure. But even with that negative point, it is a highly recommended place to stay for a relaxing break.
