“It is the best restaurant in Altea”
Reviewed July 12, 2014 via mobile

We came to have dinner at this nice restaurant by accident 3 years ago, now it is a must in our visits to Altea or the Alicante area during the summer and during the winter, it is a restaurant everybody have to go in Altea, their food is perfect, their service is outstanding and the setting could not be better, my respects to the owner Oliver Burri ( he even go to each table to greet you ) , Oustau leave me speechless. Try to make reservations they are normally full.

“Too awful for words”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

Reserved table to find out when arrived we had to wait for 2 more couples who did not made a reservation and now we had to wait before a table came available. We wanted to order the fondue. The first waiter told us we had to order this when we made the reservation. The 2nd waiter told us they were out of stock. We ordered gamba's Dr. Jivago. Served with lots of olive oil and just smacked together. The main courses were not served at the same time. One of us had to wait 15 minutes longer. The dog of our friend had a lovely breakfast next morning as I could not eat my solomillo blanca nieves. To top it all off we had to pay for 3x bread and butter. We ordered only one which was old and stale and no butter came with it. It was deducted before we paid. To find out at home we were also charged for a non alcoholic beer. After one week and many calls and messages on Facebook I was asked to call the owner. I told them the owner should call me. Still no response! Thank goodness we had a lovely ice cream at the shop further down.

“Makes you feel somewhere special”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

After eating here our feeling was that we had been somewhere far more expensive - the food, ambience, service all came together to give a really special experience. My steak was melt in the mouth and the desserts are sublime.
We got the feeling that the staff are really well trained, attentive without being all over you, and the owner is something of a character!
You will need to book as the summer goes on. Highly recommended.

“Food from a packet!”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

We ate at this restaurant in late May 2014 and were extremely disappointed. An excellent location, good decor, some friendly staff and a Michelin 2014 Guide recommendation encouraged us to reserve a table in what was clearly a busy establishment. If ambiance and location is your priority then fine. However if you want to get a good meal to a satisfactory standard, then this is not the restaurant for you. The starter we received was ok, however the main courses were poor. For a restaurant targeting the high end of the dining fraternity we were flabbergasted to be served vegetables from a packet (potato smash- i.e powdered; carrots & green beans). We raised our concerns with the owner who was present and he admitted that the vegetables were served from a packet and the potato was processed. Unbelievably he argued that this was the normal for restaurants in Altea. It isn't, we'd had very nice meals elsewhere (fresh vegetables). A far superior option in the area of Altea Church is D'els Artistes (Dutch & Spanish owners) who provide good food on a well appointed terrace, good service and great ambiance.
