After several visits to Altea, we reckon this is our all-time favourite restaurant, at least in the Old Town. Most of the tourist trade gravitates (deliberately or not) to the better-known restaurants 'downhill' from the church, such as Oustau (great but pricy) and d'els Artistes (over-rated), and El Paso definitely suffers from its location. We've never known it fully-booked, even in high season, so no need to pre-book unless you want to check on a particular dish. The food is magnificent, and the service impeccable: nothing is too much trouble, and the lady proprietor is one of the nicest restaurateurs we have ever met. You leave feeling like a friend rather than a client. She generally has some unusual dishes, such as game, but even the mainstream ones are cooked to perfection. Can't wait to return.
