In each of my last three trips to Beni, I've done the trip to Altea, a beautiful little spot easily reached by bus (number 10 from Levante area, €1,50, takes 40 mins) or by train (10 mins or so, around €1,95 I think).

Take the steep hilly alleys up to the church slowly and enjoy the views and the quirky shops on the way, and then relax with a beer or wine in the old square by the church and enjoy the rest.

On the way back, this time, we stopped for lunch at one of the lovely restaurants along the promenade in the lower town, and if feeling energetic you can always walk a few km by the sea to albir and get the bus back to beni from there.

what a differents with benidorm, old town altea is a white washed village on a hill with a pretty church on top, take bus 10 from benidorm and stay on it till the last stop and walk back to the white village, peble streets lead up to the top by the church were you can rest your legs with a refreshment in the local bars/restaurants,walk back down towards the seafront were you find the marina and iff you feel fit enough walk along the seafront back to l`albir were you take the same bus (10)back to benidorm.
bus cost 1.50 euro one way.
views from the top of altea are stunning, not suited to wheel chair users as most streets to the top are steps

Altea´s old quarter is located on a hill. It is an antique spanish town, filled with narrow streets and charming old houses. Visit the old catholic church is a must, but be respectful please. A very very recommendable place to visit.

Just as well I have a digital camera as I snapped pictures all the way up. Great view from the top. I imagine it could get very busy here in peak season. The people of Altea have put a great deal of effort into making this a great destination. Clean, interesting, scenic, good eateries and individual shops.

Well worth the trip up from the promenade, it is possible to drive up and park to almost the level of the beautiful church. Full of Spanish charm with whitewashed houses, narrow, cobbled streets, plenty of restaurants and shops to meet all tastes and budgets. A fabulous viewpoint at the top where you can see for miles !
