we took a taxi from Benidorm which cost around 20 euros but was far easier than attempting it on a bus. Very large market, plenty to see. Unfortunately it was in the 90's when we were there so that did spoil it slightly. we managed to get bus back which is very reasonably priced at 1.50 euros

Really nice atmosphere, we really enjoyed the market, when you are in Altea you must go to the Old Town or casco antiguo and El paseo it's so lovely to take a walk there next to the sea. I recommend it!

Very pleasantly surprised by visit to Altea old town. Really enjoyed walking round the old cobbled streets, looking in all the little shops before having a lovely meal. Great atmosphere in the square by the church and really recommend this ( if you don't mind the steep walk up the steps to get there!). We went late afternoon which seemed to be when the place came to life. Well worth a visit

About 50 minutes on the no 10 bus from Benidorm a nice morning out and then a stroll around the town which is a bit more upmarket than Benidorm. Buses can get full so the nearer the start of the bus route the better, same for return journey.

Every Tuesday morning until about 1pm depending on the weather there are two markets in Altea. In the centre near the old town, on a side street is an open air fruit and veg market that also sells flowers, herbs, nuts and sweets. The produce is all very fresh and excellent value. It is very popular with the locals. Near to the sports centre on the outside of Altea is quite an extensive mercadillo which is popular with the tourists. Here typical stalls sell scarves, clothing of various types including Spanish dresses for children, leather goods, pots and pans. There is also a cafe and music stalls where Spanish music plays during the morning. Both are well worth a visit.
