“Lot's of stalls”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

About 50 minutes on the no 10 bus from Benidorm a nice morning out and then a stroll around the town which is a bit more upmarket than Benidorm. Buses can get full so the nearer the start of the bus route the better, same for return journey.

“Two markets on the same day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Every Tuesday morning until about 1pm depending on the weather there are two markets in Altea. In the centre near the old town, on a side street is an open air fruit and veg market that also sells flowers, herbs, nuts and sweets. The produce is all very fresh and excellent value. It is very popular with the locals. Near to the sports centre on the outside of Altea is quite an extensive mercadillo which is popular with the tourists. Here typical stalls sell scarves, clothing of various types including Spanish dresses for children, leather goods, pots and pans. There is also a cafe and music stalls where Spanish music plays during the morning. Both are well worth a visit.

“Altea Old Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012 via mobile

What a great place to stay. We enjoyed the quiet streets and the fantastic restaurants and bars at night time. Not far to walk into town but a steep climb back. Great cake shop too. Market day was great but it really comes to life around 8:30 at night

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

This is worth the walk up all the steps! On subsequent visits we parked higher up the hillside to have less to walk.

The church is beautiful, with a square full of cafes and market stalls opposite. Typical winding Spanish lanes, whitewashed houses, better than average souvenirs shops, great restaurants.

Arrive mid afternoon and nobody is there, it's like finding a secret world. A few hours later the place is heaving.

Don't just visit the restaurants in Altea by the sea, lovely as it is, do climb the steps.

I was staying at Benidorm for 3 days, nth much to do there so I took a bus to Altea.
Along the road walking up to the hill u surrounded by white houses.
u see beautiful mediterranean seaview on he top
when I was about to leave I met a v lovely lady who asked me to stay for dinner...
well, u will see totally diff atmosphere here, everybody comes out, shops r opened.
The beach is mostly pebbles so if u want a pretty beach, u better go back to Benidorm.
Ard EUR 20 if u take taxi, last bus run til 00:00 back to Benidorm
