Location of this restaurant is not ideal but the food and service more than make up for that. There is a good menu selection and seem to usually be additional 'specials'. They are accommodating and friendly.

“Superb food, Excellent Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2012 via mobile

We visited La Perro Negro on our first evening in Altea, as it was recommended by a friend. The service was exceptional, and the restaurant owner obviously takes great pride in his restaurant, as he made a point of going round and speaking to the people on each table, and outlining the daily specials on the menu. We all chose meals from the specials menu, and were all delighted with our choices. In particular my Indonesian prawn salad was delicious. Would definitely recommend La Perro Negro to anyone visiting Altea, and would not hesitate to go back.

“Good food at good prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

El Perro Negro is one of my favourite restaurants in Altea. The cuisine is French influenced, but there are plenty of other international influences to give the menu lots of choices. The building is an old Altea town house with a terrace that looks onto the street. Not too peaceful when the local lads roar their mopeds up the hill to the Plaza de la Cruz - but that's Spain! Inside is quaint & rambling. There is a small bar area which can cater for the odd solo diner, but in general customers tend to head straight for the tables which are scattered around the linked areas that extend through the house. It can be a bit chilly in winter - but Jean M, uses heaters to fight the cold to good effect.
The regular menu is augmented by "specials" which will be explained to you in detail along with the cooking methods. Everything is cooked fresh so do not be surprised if some items run out before you order.
I have tried many of the standard items and find them all to be good. The casseroles of lamb are particularly good and the Stroganoff is superb. We usually share a starter as the portions are rather generous and the sweets can be too tempting (well we can always diet tomorrow). El Perro Negro has a well balanced wine list with one or two French wines (nice Cote de Rhone) to make the choice more interesting.
On some weekends during the winter, El Perro Negro imports Oysters from France. The restaurant can get crowded on these weekends and booking is essential.

“Fantastic food and nice and cosy restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2011

We've been here before, and liked it that much that this year we just had to go back. The menu is always really special, quality, taste, (and amount) of food is great. The menu has everything for everybody, from lasagna until fresh oysters out of France.
The owners and staff are lovely, and I have to say that is by far the best restaurant we've been to in Altea.
