You couldn't ask for a nicer owner who keeps the place clean and gives great suggestions. I stayed 3 nights and then had to leave as the noise at night from the Little Bali Disco and the late night coffee stand was just too much. Now, if noise doesn't bother you or you are one of those causing the ruckus, you'd be happy here. My guess is many of the other places around the river suffer from the same lack of cosnideration by Little Bali.

The cafe adjacent with the same name (but different owners) is a bit of a rip off with high prices and mediocre quality. They even tried to charge me (2 mr) to use the electricity for my laptop and free wireless they advertise. I was buying dinner so refused to be gouged for a penny of energy.

I stayed here a few times over a 2 year period. I tried out some of the other places to stay in Cherating and this one has the best atmosphere.

Some guests have stayed for years thanks to the owners Jun and Trish who are very welcoming. Jun can also help you learn to surf.

The chalets all have en-suite bathrooms. They are basic and clean. It's the best value for money I found in Cherating.

Lot's of restaurants close by and 3 minutes from the beach. Great place to chill.

We spent over an hour wandering around Cherating looking for a place to stay. Of course we looked at the Payung Guesthouse first and we ended up coming back. The only reason we kept walking in the first place was that they only had fan-cooled bungalows and I wanted to find some a/c. However, comparing all the other places in town, the rooms were generally in worse shape and they were pricier. So for 35 RM per night we had a lovely little bungalow. There was a mosquito net even! We didn't see too many of those in our travels surprisingly. And you definitely need it in Cherating - when we were there we got a lot of mosquito bites!
Anyways, the couple that runs the place is very friendly! They are welcoming and willing to assist. They even let us put our sim card in their cell phone to make a couple phone calls because our phone didn't want to work.
The room was the typical wooden bungalow with attached bathroom but this one felt cleaner than most we stayed in.
The bed was comfy enough and you got a little sitting area out front of your bungalow.
I liked this place because the people made the difference. Cherating was one of the most friendly towns we came across in Asia. They weren't constantly trying to sell you something. The town is very quiet and there's not a whole lot going on though. We had missed the surf by a week or so we were told!
Overall, a good place for a short stop.
