“Lovely Hotel for a relaxing holiday”
Reviewed October 13, 2010

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for 10 days at the end of september and the weather was still low 30's. We arrived just before mid night via taxi (which cost 33euros) and the night staff had put aside two plates of food for us in case we were hungry which we thought was a very nice thought. The hotel was spotless, the resort itself was also very clean and the food at each meal had something to suit.
One place you must go to in Kos Town is the XL bar where they serve a wide range of cocktails at 3euros each and the ruins around the town are very interesting to see. From the hotel the town is about a 20 minute walk but if you would rather get a taxi its 6 euro.
One thing I will mention is in reviews I read and people said there are a lot of Germans that stay at the hotel they didn't lie we only saw two other english couples while we were there.
The only negative comment about this hotel is that the all inclusive drinks are very limited. It consists of beer wine ouzo or brandy and as a vodka drinker I didn't benifit from this however soft drinks were provided all day. We ended up buying a bottle of vodka from the supermarket at the top of the road for a very good price and sat on the balcony drinking it and enjoying the views of the gardens.
This hotel is a lovely place to stay and I do recommend but I wouldn't return if it was for anything else than a relaxing holiday.

We had a very enjoyable week here. It's a very good 3* hotel which is better than a poor 4 or 5* one.
Although we went out every day we always had a swim in the lovely pool and a sit with a drink.
Clientele 90% middle-aged German which suits us as they are quiet, polite & go to bed early (lke us). Imagine being at an All-Inclusive place with 200 Brits!
Many of the room have been modernised but some haven't & look a bit tired (esp bathrooms).
However, we were hardly in our room (despite nice balcony) as the bar & restaurant are lovely.
The All-Inclusive food is good if a bit same-y (breakfast is a little too German) but we ate well & quite healthily - I had salad with lamb, chicken or beef twice a day sometimes.
There are pancakes and you can make your own waffles which we enjoyed.
Cheffie is there 3 meals a day 7 days a week keeping things stocked up.
The AI booze is lager (German, strangely, I'd have preferred Mythos), a pleasant sweet local retsina, a less good red wine, (though improved on last-but-one day), brandy & Ouzo (both perfectly fine). Coffee available 10-6 (nice with a shot of brandy in).
All drinks are served in the same glasses so you get a small beer, a big wine, and a quarter-pint with the spirits! (3 glasses of spirits did for me on my second night & I was in bed for 10).
Bar staff a bit glum but it was end of a long season, and there was never a queue nor any sort of rationing.
Rooms are cleaned frequently to a high standard.
We liked the location of GG as you can walk into Kos Town in about half an hour (it's a bit further than we expected). But if you hire a bike (€2.50 a day over the road) you're there in no time.
Lots to see in Kos Town, and you can cycle to Asciplion (2.7 miles) or Tigaki beach (4 miles)
There are lots of boat trips from the harbour & I wish we'd made more use of these.
We went to Nisyros which is a must-visit. The volcano is excellent & the little town of Mandraki is very quiet & beautiful.
But there was also a trip to Patmos I would have liked & the 3 island trips looked good too (one boat had slides down the side & another offered free snorkling gear).
Lots of people get the boat to Bodrum but being hassled by market salesfolk isn't my bag.
Back to GG. The gym looks excellent, there is free wifi and you can borrow beach towels to save luggage allowance.
Special mention must go to Karen the manager who was very good & sorted our one problem quickly & to our advantage.
The night porter Giorgos is helpful too, although he did think that I was terminally thick (explaining how a door works four times and the phrase "after breakfast" from a variety of angles).
Finally, the garden ambience worked well. I had fancied the Blue Lagoon, but it looked like a Stalinist city, and some Germans we met found Iberostar too big too. GG is big enough to have a good pool but small enough to feel homely.
Coming back from 26C every day to 12C heavy raining Cardiff has been tough.
We got this hotel for a good price: if you see it reasonably-priced too then book without fear.

Hotel Gaia is by far the best hotel me and my boyfriend have ever been in. The hotel is spotless and the gardens beautiful. The staff are polite, helpful and very friendly. Good variery of food, specialy breakfast where you can chose between English breakfast, continental, fruit, pancakes etc. For lunch and dinner there are always greek dishes as well as rice, pasta, salad, fruit, ice creams etc. The bedrooms are quite simple but they are cleaned every day and the sheets and towels changed daily. All the bedrooms have free air con, anti mosquitos plug in and free wi-fi. The hotel is only 10 minute walk from the beach and 20 minute walk from the main town. The swimming pool is clean and you wouldn't find a cigarette around the swimming pool area. At 5pm there are free coffee/tea and cookies. Even when most of the guests in the hotel are German we managed to have a great time and mainly to relax. Nights are quiet but if you want some party you can easily go to the main town. You can also get a boat to Bodrum from the harbour, it will cost you €10 only or €15 if you want a tour guide like we did.
All in all, I wouldn't fault the hotel for anything, it is beautiful, spotless, well located and the staff very friendly and helpul. I will definitely stay in the same hotel if I go back to Kos.
