“Fantastic Holiday”
Reviewed July 4, 2008

The staff are very friendly nothing was too much trouble I was even given a free carton of milk because the supermarket was closed. The apartments are basic although ideal for self catering,we received a daily maid service and a daily change of towels, the shower was powerful and there was a plentiful supply of hot water. The beach is within walking distance and a wonderful place to spend the day. There are many tavernas also within easy walking distance Blue Phoenix and sunset taverna are definitely worth a visit. We also enjoyed the sunshine cruise and a visit to Zia to view the sunset. We intend to return next year. The Howlett family from Kings Lynn, Norfolk

Firstly i must agree with the majority of the reviewers, that this hotel is owned and run by a very friendly family, but we found the hotel to be very noisy, and found it difficult to get any sleep until at least 4.00am due to noise from the hotel bar, and what seemed to be a door slamming competition until the early hours.
The rooms were kept very clean, with regular towel and bed linen changes, but the bathroom was dated and in need of an upgrade.
The island of Kos is not the most beautiful of the Greek isles and certainly not cheap to eat out, which in part is due to the strengh of the Euro/pound,but prices generally were high.
We will not be returning to Kos again.

  • Liked — Friendly,Blackpool style boarding house persona
  • Disliked — Noisy:not cheap when you count added extras:near to disused factorys and busy rabbit run road

This is the second time we have stayed here and would recommend it to everyone. Upon arrival we were greeted like old friends and spent two relaxed weeks feeling at home. The family are great and Rita will be missed when she goes. The barbeque (make sure you take your camera) and kleftico are a must. We are looking forward to returning and every penny spent is worth it as you are guarenteed an excellent time.

Alice Springs Hotel was the salvation to our holiday!!! When we first arrived in Kos, we were in Kardamena and in a dive of a hotel! Upon deciding to move, we were moved to The Alice Springs Hotel. From the start, George and Barbara made us feel one of the family. All round a lovely atmosphere and gd fun at the legendary Aussie Barbeque, everyone that we met were lovely individuals and everyone made our stay wonderful. The whole family go above and beyond the call of duty to make your holiday the best it can be! Will definiatly be going back next year!

Now, here's a funny thing: we don't do hotel holidays by the seaside anywhere. We do cottages off the beaten track in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, or remote Northumberland, or "big sky" Suffolk - but not hotels on a Greek Island in sight of the Turkish coast.
So, how come we were there in June 2008? Simple really; fed up with poor English weather & knowing that Scotland would provide it's normal four seasons in a single day, we browsed the internet for something uplifting and reviews of holidays spent at the Alice Springs Hotel in Kos Town were just that - upbeat.
Expect a warm, friendly, come one, come all, family welcome with bright, clean rooms, a sparkling pool, a great bar and good food they said.
And is that what we found? You bet it was! George, Barbara, Elias, Rita & the rest of this Greek / Australian family will have you sorry to leave, and they'll be sorry you're leaving too.
Go on - say G'day to a holiday to remember.

A brief review of a good week's break at the Alice Springs:-
PROS:
Very clean & comfortable without being luxurious
Always plenty of hot water for showers
Friendly family running the hotel
Not too crowded (at this time of year anyway)
Lamb kleftico night - almost the best lamb dish we have ever had!
Weather fabulous, generally hot and clear with cooling breeze most days.

CONS:
Having to pay extra for refrigerator, air con and safety deposit box.(100 Euros per week on top of holiday cost)
Overall -Cost of living very high ( with what we spent at the hotel and at restaurants and bars we could have had two weeks all inclusive in the Caribbean!!)
In conclusion loved the island and hotel but is it value for money with the Euro being so strong ??
