We spent last week at The Blue Lagoon with our 2 daughters aged 9 & 4. We all had a great time although the weather was patchy to say the least.
The Good - this is a large resort with an impressive range of sporting and leisure facilities. The lagoon pool is huge, the children's pools are excellent and the brand new water park, whilst only small is spotless with good slides for all ages and also has on site snacks and drinks that are included in the all inclusive offering. On the food side hot, fresh crepes by the lagoon pool and at the water park are a serious danger to the waistline and the food at the Italian restaurant is good. Our kids used both the First Choice and Hotel run kids clubs and enjoyed them both and absolutely loved the mini disco every night. Our room was a good size with 4 beds in the 2 rooms and a good sized bathroom.
The Average - the food in the main restaurant in the evening and the lunchtime poolside buffet is pretty standard all inclusive fare. The Greek restaurant is a nicer setting but the food is only a marginal improvement. Whilst the animation team is enthusiastic and talented the use of tired old formats like Mr & Mrs, karaoke night and Miss Blue Lagoon lets them down. There are some nice bars to sit in if your kids don't drag you to the big tent every night.
The Bad - this is a large sprawling resort and can be hard to navigate especially when they give you out of date maps in the Welcome Pack. The breakfast buffet is pretty poor, the BBQ restaurant doesn't have any BBQ'd food and is best avoided. You have to pay for wine in The Italian al a carte and they don't offer you any all inclusive drinks. There is no where in the resort that shows English football.
Summary - despite a few faults this is a fun, friendly hotel that is great for an all inclusive family holiday however if you are looking for sophisticated entertainment or gourmet dining then its not going to be for you.

We are just back (Mid May 2013) and would stay here again.
The resort is 2km to Kos town so bus/taxi needed.

Here is my Good, Bad and Tips.

Tips:
If you are going very soon the pack some long sleeves as the evenings were a bit chilly as most things are out in the open.
If you need an iron take one as they only have an ironing service - no irons to borrow

Good:
Large very modern resort with lots of sun beds and huge main pool plus numerous smaller pools catering for kids and adults only.
High standards throughout from cleaning, ground maintenance to service staff looking after you very well.
4 restaurants (Greek, italian,BBQ and standard buffet) all buffet style - I enjoyed this but some people found it a little repetitive.
Golf buggies driving around offering you lifts as its quite a walk if staying in certain blocks.
Crepe station by the pool
Gym/steam/sauna
Large entertainment tent with shows 6/7 nights from the animation team that contained some very talented singers/dancers.
Excellent for families but also for couples as we are.

Bad (not much really)
Wifi isn't free (5euro for 1 hour - 20euro for 24 hours)
More toast machines needed as they are slow and cause long queues.
No irons to borrow
It's a shame the resort isn't on the one piece of land (like the maps may suggests), if staying at the far end (blocks 7000/8000/9000) or visiting the pools/bar/restaurant at this end you have to walk off resort and briefly on to a quiet road then back on, this small stretch contains a field with a derelict building and some cows that look underfed which was a concern.
The beach across the road isn't very nice either so I'd stay in the resort.

Hope this helps.

1st holiday abroad with our 3 year old daughter 1st - 8th May 2013 and would recommend this resort to anyone with children of any age. We arrived at the hotel at around 1030pm fairly tired from travelling and were greeted by an array of staff and baggage helpers. There was a queue to check in but it still only took around 10 minutes as there were so many staff on the desk.
There was champagne for adults and juice for the kids whilst we were waiting and the bar in the reception provided sandwiches. We were taken via golf buggy to a very spacious and immaculate sea view room with a large bathroom and balcony. The only grumble with the room was the old style TV but other than that it was lovely.
The hotel certainly matches up to the photos in the Thomson brochure and did not disappoint. There is a huge lagoon style swimming pool with a lot of loungers so there was never any need to reserve a sunbed. There is a kids pool with a pirate ship and slide with a separate pool next to it with a further 3 water slides. There is another kids pool in the annexe of the hotel with a smaller ship and slide and 2 larger water slides. The lads at reception will take you to the annexe in a golf buggy as it is a little far to walk depending on where you are.
Further to this there is a waterpark with kids and adult slides, splashpark and a lazy river. There is also a snack bar here and loads of loungers too. There are other pools to so there is always lots to do.
The hotel provides you with a towel exchange card one per person so you can collect towels from near the reception at the beginning of the day and return them at the end. You really don't need to take your own towels (saves on luggage space).
The restaurants are immaculate and the choice of food is extensive. The waiters cannot do enough for you and the tables are always cleared and drinks replenished without even asking. The main restaurant gets hot but there are seats outside which I would recommend. The kids buffet is great as it is lower so kids can choose their own meals and reach them.
The "animation" team work for the hotel and provide daytime and evening entertainment. The kids disco is 30 minutes followed by face painting and is brilliant for wearing them out at the end of the day. They also run a small drop in kids club by the kids pool if you want to have a break from the sun.
It is worth asking for a quiet room as the rooms opposite the entertainment tent would be awful as they are very close to the noise. The annexe part of the hotel is great for families.
The pools all have lifeguards which is a bonus (and they actually tell the kids off which is great). The hotel grounds are well maintained and if something goes wrong it is fixed straight away. The rooms are cleaned daily.
The bus into Kos town stops right outside and the hotel provide you with a timetable. The town is okay but it is full of the usual gift shops and restaurants.
The only moan I have is the beach. If you want a holiday with a nice beach don't book Kos as they are rubbish. The sand is awful and if you look along the beach there is a fair amount of rubbish. My daughter built 1 sandcastle and went back to the hotel.
Kos airport is badly organised and overcrowded but that was about the worst part of the holiday. The hotel is a 40 minute transfer so that helps with tired kids in tow.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know and I am fairly picky about holidays.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms and rooms in the annexe are quieter.

We have just arrived back from week all inclusive from 1 st to 8 th may 2013, after reading all the reviews I was looking forward to it, and from the min we arrived the hotel staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough for ya, we went alone without any children so thought that this would be noisy but it wasn't there at all, if you want to get away from animation team who worked very hard every day except Sunday as that's their day off, adult pool, adults restaurants and piano bar, we booked to go to the Greek restaurant which was lovely, waiter service....we hired a scooter and toured the island over 2 days as its only 25 miles long 5 miles wide, if you want to walk to kos town it only 1.5 miles long and plenty stop off bar, restaurants people very friendly say hello etc as you pass them, car and traffic not busy and drivers are very tolerant of us tourists x I loved zia it is must see in the mountains breath taking , there were a lot of bike hire places to choose from we went to moto Steve just outside hotel, he was friendly and no problem at all, car hire also available don't just opt for anything there were Mini Cooper, merc slk driving around with hire company's name on them, so if you want to drive around in style....go for one of them....food well to me was fantastic, a lot salads, meat, chicken, pork, beef and it seemed available constantly breakfast 7/10 then continental breakfast 10/12 then lunch and the afternoon snacks, do I go on.....ice cream for everyone available all time help yourself, alcohol good for own but be warned if you buying branded drinks like Bacardi then it is very expensive about 6 euro or 7 euro for cocktails. I could go on and on re this hotel and kos just see for yourselves hope you have as great holiday as we did

Room Tip: There is hairdryers, kettle coffee, tea every day , bath robes we stayed opposite dome wasn't too noisy and gardens lovely stayed second floor

Been meaning to write this review for a while but what can I say, we absolutely loved it here!! The children still ask if we can go back! Great food, brilliant facilities, pools are great for the kids and the room was clean and modern.

Kos town itself is stunning. Lovely harbour and great restaurants if you fancy a change. There is a bus you can catch outside the hotel if you don't fancy walking in the heat!

All in all a fab holiday and although we have a rule not to go to the same place twice, I'm tempted!!
