The food was lovely, but the location was even better. Its a lovely setting under the trees and lit with little lights hung around. It is set in a quiet square next to a church. The service was great. They couldn't do enough for you.

It is worth a visit!

Some countries have such famous regional dishes that they have become talismans, such as Yorkshire pudding, Baltimore crab and Toulouse Cassoulet but in other countries, such as Greece, the regional variations are more subtle: the precise dough and shaping of pasta depending on religious festivals, the mixture of herbs, the cure of olives.

The island of Kos has its own full range of regional delights but they have to be sought out. Most of the restaurants and tavernas are depressingly similar, not least in the enforced transfer from lamb to pork because of the influx of tourists like us.

With careful examination of menus, guide book research, and a cultivated hardness of heart towards soliciting proprietors at their doors, it is possible to identify local delicacies; and such are to be found in abundance at Prepon, a restaurant in Paraskevas Square with many of its tables under a lovely big tree.

My wife and I started with the wonderful cheese soaked in red wine, together with hummus with herbs, sun dried tomato, peppers and olives and a bowl of warm Bougiourdi cheese with herbs, peppers, onions and tomatoes, stirred before serving to bring out the flavours. Then there was deep fried (a la tempura) octopus with a panzanella-type Mirmizeli salad of bread, olives, capers, peppers, and tomato) and big shrimps with pitaridia, the local egg-rich past, topped up with the smokiest aubergine cooked with garlic. The wine was adequate but plentiful and the whole lot came out at €40. It's a tree we would like to sit under again!

Cash only.

Greek cuisine with a modern twist. The dolmadakia (stuffed wine leaves) are absolutely to die for. Friendly staff & good location. Definately worth a visit

We went to this restaurant twice because our all inclusive hotel restaurant was a disappointment. And this restaurant does not disappoint: Friendly service, adequate choice and good quality. But you will have to bring cash: no credit cards accepted.
