“Perfect Pizzas”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

We found this on a backstreet wander of Kos Old Town and stopped to share a Pizza and Chefs Salad with a jug of wine for lunch. The food was excellent and the surroundings authentically Greece with domed churches all around you, and Greek old ladies in black wandering by.

“Authentic Greek!”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

Brilliant authentic Greek food and my favourite meal in Kos. We ate here for both lunch and dinner on the same day we were so impressed. Reasonably priced with a nice setting, I would recommend this restaurant.

“Family values....”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

Having been in Kos for a week, I was tired of those restauranteurs. 'Making kamaki' ( harassing the tourists to dine into their restaurants ). It was a 'breathe of fresh air' to find a restaurant which could sell itself without the need to annoy tourist with such banter. I stumbled on Alexandros, set in a side alley, when I noticed how busy the restaurant appeared. The menu was extensive, not pretentious , and certainly the 'right price'! The host and hostess were both friendly and willing to please!
Lots of traditional Greek dishes, salads and local wines, but for the less adventurous older European crowd there were the staple dishes too! The Greek plate was a great way to try an assortment of favourites...and the home made baklava was amazing!
Definitely a place I'll happily return to, as it was value for money, excellent service and friendly staff.

“It could have been better - my fault.”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

Taverna Alexandros has a nice location and at the time of our visit, was pretty full. Our table was unfortunately within sniffing distance of the kitchen window, from which, the unmistakable smell of stale cooking oil emanated. We feared the worst.

We made an error, ordering two fish grills. Why “error”? Because the content included salmon and an undefined white fish. I’m no expert but Mediterranean salmon are rare beasts and the white fish could have been anything – and it was. Both examples were overcooked and frankly terrible. The one huge prawn on the grill was good and the octopus was fabulous; so the whole thing wasn’t a complete write-off. The tomato salad we had to accompany the fish was just OK.

After the error of not “going local” with the fish, we had the Greek yoghurt, with honey and walnuts, as dessert. Delicious. Two Greek coffees and a Metaxa finished off the meal, as well as two complimentary Bailey’s.

Prices were good and the service smiling and friendly. If I hadn’t been so stupid, as to order a mainly non-Greek fish dish, things could have been so much better. It wasn’t bad but there are better in the area.
