“Excellent lunchtime Mezes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

Went to Kos Town last week. This restaurant is in a prime location on the main square. Sat outside for a light lunch. Had a well presented selection of mezes to share, delicious freshly cooked meatballs & Warm sliced tomatoes with feta and olive oil. Worth waiting for. Only 18 euro including drinks. All female staff were very efficient.

“Women power”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

We went to this restaurant for dinner with my husband, expected to try some local dishes, inspired by what we saw on the advertising picture in front of the restaurant. The selection of dishes in the menu was very limited, offering a few types of pies and desserts. The pies and desserts that we ordered were just unpacked food from supermarket. I didn't notice any local cuisine or even cooking in these dishes. It was very expensive for such kind of food. We paid the same for big dishes with wine in other local restaurants. We left this restaurant hungry. The service was slow as well. It is disappointing that this restaurant tries to advertise itself under "women cooperation" label, misleading people who go there to support women business.

“Terrible service. Walked out”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

As a woman travelling on my own, i really wanted to support this place. Plenty of empty tables, even at lunchtime, so I sat, read the menu, very impressed by the sound of the food. Waited, waited, watched the three waitresses clearing tables, clearing more tables, taking orders for others who came after me. Caught waitresses eye, ignored me. Decided to move tables so they couldn't miss me...they had just cleaned the one I moved to. Same waitress, same eye, totally ignored. Waited, asked another waitress for help. "Other one take order" she said and moved on. watched as she and the "other one" started cleaning tables. Gave up and left. Waited about 20 mins in all. Such a shame .

“Everybody must eat here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

Aegli, in the market square of Kos Town, is so new that it hasn't really sorted out its own name yet, so it is variously entitled in its documentation and signage: "The Women's Co-operative of Kos" or "Local Gastronomy Women's Co-operation" but you get the picture. The Co-operative employs 16 women, either previously unemployed, single mums, old women or those with four children and, using only produce from the island, turn out fantastic dishes from every corner of the place at stunningly low prices.

So, right in the centre of town with Friday's evening bustle all around us we shared mixed olives and then preserved fish roe, a plate of mixed starters and a monumental platter of cheese with unlimited bread, but the menu was vast, offering every variety of vegetable, cereal and meat in every particularist combination, including Epiphany crumpets. We chose a delicate white wine and a robust red, neither bearing much relationship to the usual hybrid wines usually on offer.

The service was charming but necessarily a little diffident and we wrote in the comments book and left a large tip to support the cause.

Every visitor to Kos should eat here for the fantastic food, the superlative value for money, the unusual wines and the good cause! I would give this a higher mark if the system allowed!

“Wonder Women!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

My daughter and I stopped here for lunch on a trip to Kos Town. The fact that this is run by a Women's cooperative really appealed to us and we weren't disappointed. Lovely Greek salad and homemade meat pie, plus tzatziki and bread - all delicious. Good views of the square for people watching and prices are reasonable. Recommended
