“A wonderful holiday”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

I should say that to me already become a good tradition since the beginning of summer travel to Greece. And the Greek Islands. Last year it was Crete. This Kos. But if last year the more pleasure I got from explore Crete, Kos greatest pleasure is delivered hotel. Excellent location near the sea, the idyllic landscape of the rural hinterland, the landscape, the main role which was played by the mountains and the Aegean sea - it was a beautiful framing for the diamond, which was the Diamond Deluxe Hotel (DDH). The week spent in the hotel, left extremely good impression of elegance and convenience of the architectural and planning solutions of the hotel, in which the main role is played by the water, personnel amiability and professionalism, excellent restaurants and relaxing atmosphere... I would like to sincerely thank the staff and designers, who managed to create the hotel causing only positive experience in it... Well, in the proximity to the island's capital city of KOs is an additional plus, because this small town is just a charming...

Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

We have just returned from our weeks holiday. We booked through secret escapes. We arrived 6th June 2013. Our review is in sections

Hotel: beautiful lobby just as the Pics show. We were given a poolside room which was spacious and very well decorated, however, we didn't like the outlook; felt like a goldfish in a bowl so we asked if we could change to a sea view room. Vanessa and Eirini were really helpful and said we could change the next day. Indeed true to their word we had a gorgeous room with a little patio overlooking a garden and with a see view. The room was lovely spacious and clean and a real bonus for us there was a walk in shower big enough for two with a rainfall shower head. They provided a nice selection of toiletries. All the public areas were very clean and bright with funky furniture and a huge pool. There are nice sun loungers but we found it difficult to find them around the pool as many of them were for specific rooms. Note you can get soft towels for the pool and beach but there is a 20 euro deposit, the towels are available at the spa.

Beach: As previous reviews have said, the beach is in poor condition, I went around picking up other peoples rubbish! The beach would benefit from being raked. I would suggest you get swimming shoes to get over the large pebbles, once beyond the rocks you will be rewarded with soft sand; the water was clear, and once in felt great.

Food: We went full board, the food was to a high standard with lots of choices. The desserts were fantastic and I made a pig of myself each day! The one thing I would have liked was steak and some traditional Greek dishes using lamb. Pork, fish and beef seemed to be the usual meat.

Drinks: This was a big issue for us and many other guests we chatted to. The prices for drinks are too high, I for one do not accept the justification offered by the hotel that their prices are in line with "Greek market". We found Mythos, for example, for only €2.50 at restaurants in Kos Town and water for €0.50 to €0.85 in town. The water should be supplied free, we paid €1.50 for a small bottle of water in the hotel restaurant. We had a bottle of wine as a treat and it cost €24, it was nice but not €24 nice! I did have a vodka tonic which was a staggering €7.50 and a small beer, the local brand, mythos was €5. For comparrison, we went to a supermarket on our hired bicycles a few kilometers away where we bought 4 Smirnoff Ice for €5, a bottle of wine for €4.24 a case of 12 half litre bottles of water for €1.66 and a six pack of Mythos for €4.98. Unfortunately the hotel does not allow you to take drinks bought out of the restaurant, even water, in to drink with your meals, so we were forced to pay way over the odds for a glass of water with our meals. I really believe the way for the hotel to have repeat guests and happy guests is to offer an all inclusive package, or reduce the prices of drinks.

Spa: I treated myself to 2 massages both wonderful and a good price 20 euro for neck, shoulder and back massage for 30 minutes. I strongly recommend taking the time to book yourself in for the spa treatment.

Bikes: The hotel can arrange bike hire for you, they take you to collect your bike and bring you back when your rental is up. We loved the bikes, we regularly cycled to Kos town and the areas around our resort: a must if you eat like we did! There is a bike path on the costal route to Kos town. It provides a safe if windy journey to the town. We discovered a few alternative routes on the back roads, turn right and left and you avoid the wind. We went to the local supermarket and bought water, beer, tea and coffe. (the rooms only supply limited tea bags, limited sugars and no coffee or milk.)

Kos Town: lots of history to see, the castle has commanding views of Kos harbour, there is Hippocrates tree and many more ancient artefacts to see. Plenty of pavement cafe's to watch the world go by. All along the harbour are boats selling trips to islands and to turkey.

3 Island boat trip, many boats advertise this trip but I highly recommend the Christina; the staff are wonderful and really responsive to the guests requests - when appropriate. We had 3 island stops to swim and walk around the villages. The day cost €30 each and included a BBQ lunch. The absolute highlight for us was seeing the wild dolphins in the ocean (see pics), they jumped & played in groups and was a sight to behold. The reason I recommend this boat was because they are mindful that these beautiful creatures are curious but also frightened so the captain approached slowly and turned off the music, he also stayed in the area for at least 30 minutes, so we could really take the spectical in. Other boats came along at speed, music blaring and only stayed for 5 minutes.

Turkey: we went on a day trip to turkey, there is again so much history to see the amphitheatre is huge, there is a castle and monuments to see, however unlike the uk historical sites, they do charge an entrance fee. There is a market on a tuesday but we didn't go to shop. Arrive early to queue to pay your entry clearance fee, €5.40 per person. The trip is only €20 per person plus the clearance fee. Do not expect the boat to leave on time, it may leave slightly early or it may hang around for more passengers and leave really late. The schedule is more of a guideline. that being said, on return from Turkey, do not be late.

Finally, a few people who we would like to thank for their excellent service: Eirini who was a delight and helpful, she even had my husbands shorts mended for him. Also Vanessa who was instrumental in getting us a room change. Antonia in the restaurant who was friendly and very efficient.

Would we go again...... To be honest if the drinks policy changed, yes in a heartbeat, but at the moment no, the drink policy is just too annoying. We would have even been happy to pay for a drink package at the start of the trip, even one that was restricted to soft drinks and water, but having to think about the cost of each and every drink, and having to sign for the drinks, while on vacation (holiday) is such a pain. Drinks, massages, and snacks are charged to. Your room and you pay the bill when you check out.

Kos, we definitely will go back, it's a beautiful island, with wonderful views, history and weather. Personally for me it would be to see the dolphins again.

Great hotel, fabulous island.

Dear Guest,
To begin with, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share you experience from your vacation with us and for your willingness to offer a descriptive review for our future guests.
To continue we would also like to thank you for confirming to us that you have enjoyed your overall stay with us and that our facilities and working team have contributed to your relaxation. Irini and Vanessa were really happy to know about your reference to their names.
Furthermore, please let me give you a quite explanative response regarding the drink prices. As a 5star hotel we offer the opportunity to our guests to join our pool bar which cannot offer lower standards. In our menus you can find coffees from 3€ up to 6.5€ for the special coffees (moccafreddo, lumumba etc). Juices are available from 4.50€ and beers from 5€ to 6.50€ for some special brands. Regular drinks cost 6€, a wine of 187ml costs 6€ and the bottles cost approximately 24€. Some visitors suggested to us to offer more cheap wines which could be easy for us simply by buying cheaper wines too but we insist to keep are our standards high. Guests who compared our prices with other lounge bars in Kos they couldn’t find difference and people who have been to Athens confirm that our prices are lower. That proves that we do not create our pricelist basis of the most expensive Greek specifications but basis on a fair evaluation of the Greek market and the company standards and quality. You have mentioned lower prices but you didn’t mention the brands which should be an important detail in order to have a conclusion. You have mention soft drinks which are available in low prices in all the supermarkets and definitely are more expensive in every bar around the world. This is a standard market law. Everything is cheaper in the supermarket. But in a supermarket you buy only the drinks and not any other service. You can also find cheaper wines in our in house mini market as the reason of offering that facility is for leaving to our guests the option.
Additionally I would like to mention that as we do not belong to an all inclusive type of hotel, we are always happy to advertise Kos town and local market to our guests. By that way we do not try to “captivate” no one in our establishment using financial tricks and packages and it is a great chance for people to make their own research regarding the average cost of Greece and Kos entertainment. It is quite surprising for me to explain broadly accepted market rules and I am focusing in this matter as I am sure that my response cannot be misunderstood or settled as a paragraph of excuses. We do not offer expensive prices comparing to any Greek island or bar. We will not downgrade the quality of our services and drinks in order to achieve lower prices and we are always willing to discuss further your objections in personal so I can actually show to you what we mean by “greek market”. We don’t like it either as we need to deal with it every day but at least we are happy and proud that we can still offer our services in logical prices without making any discount to our overall quality and service.
To conclude I would like to thank you once more for choosing us and we assure you that we would be more than happy to welcome you back!
Always at your disposal,
Katerina Troubounely,

We have just returned home from the most wonderful week at the Diamond Deluxe hotel. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel so welcome and the hotel is stunning. The friendly staff were fantastic nothing was too much trouble. We had a maisonette room which was beautiful but we asked if it was possible to change to a pool front room but the hotel was full . Then the next day Hercules the hotel manager came to find us and said we could move rooms which was brilliant and really made our holiday complete. The food is excellent, different every day with so much choice. Dimitris and Asta are wonderful and so entertaining at the bar every evening. Mario the restaurant manager is very funny - he made us laugh every day. The hotel is so relaxing and peaceful we totally switched off and felt as though we had been there longer than just a week. The bus service outside the hotel takes you straight into Kos town so it was very convenient every day and evening. We will certainly return to Kos and the DDH.

Just bring your swimsuits and get ready for your best holidays in your life.... The island of Kos can can satisfy everybody with its superb sandy beaches and its rich ancient history. The hotel is magnificent in every means, ideally located close to the Kos Town and close to a fantastic miles-long sandy beach. The Hotel is exceptionally clean and looked after, plenty of water around with several swimming pools for adults and children and the staff hard working, smiley and friendly making our stay so happy and a unique experience. Our special wedding maisonette is superb. 2 years ago we had stayed in the same Hotel in a double room and we were equally impressed. The food is excellent although we had to try a couple of exceptional fish tavernas in Kos Town (like the Barbouni and the Kalymnos which were fantastic). Definitely, we haven't regretted chosing it for our two-week honeymoon, for coming back as it has been a guarranted quality holidays. We now have another 3 days to go, but we are coming back for sure, possibly next year....

We had an amazing holiday. Will definitely go back to DDH. The staff were efficient, professional, and friendly. We arrived late evening and they had a plate of food waiting for us in our room. The food in the restaurant was delicious, with large variety. We loved the Greek evening and being shown how to make a typical Moussaka and Tzatziki. The restaurant staff were all extremely attentive and efficient. We felt like were amongst friend. We loved the rural feel, away from the typical tourist places. The décor was attractive and unusual. The rooms a good size but we would have liked a few more drawers.

We went to the DDH for a totally relaxing holiday in May and that's what we had. The whole ambience of the hotel is to make you feel relaxed. When we checked in on our arrival at 11.35pm they had the forethought to leave a cold plate of food in our room which was very welcome. The room was lovely and clean, will try to book a superior room next time as you have sun loungers outside your poolside doors. The food was plentiful and very good for a buffet style restaurant, especially enjoyed the Greek night food. The waiter service was friendly and very attentive.
All the staff are very friendly, helpful and able to converse in English.
l must say a special thank you to Domitrios & Asta for making our stay a pleasure. They kept us entertained each night at the bar, especially Dimitrios with his magic tricks and wonderful cocktails.
Thanks for a great first time holiday in Greece. Yamass

Room Tip: Superior ground floor by the pool as have own sun loungers

I have just returned from a holiday to Kos with my wife, staying at the Diamond Deluxe Hotel at Lambi. The moment we arrived we were treated exceptionally well and made to feel very welcome, accommodation was first class, facilities and the staff were also first class and the restaurant food was very good - we thought we would be overwhelmed being full board but really all it takes is a little bit of control to avoid putting on the weight :-) difficult with the quality and extensive choice of food at each meal time !

We had a very relaxing time which was the reason for going, and the large number of pools made swimming and cooling off from the Sun very easy to do, also fitted in a Spa session doing the Steam/Sauna circuit. Additionally, the amazing views and the beach also provided a great alternative to lying by the pool(s).

The best assets however are the staff, from reception through to the restaurant, bar and management. Of particular note are Dimitrious and Asta - "lords" of the main bar - Dimitrious does Magic tricks exceptionally well, for kids as well as adults, but "don't try this at home, is dangerous, it took me 2 years to learn this in India", so be warned !

They're a good double act and very entertaining. He also has the knack of remembering every single person's name from the first time they sit down for a drink at the Bar, and he will also introduce everyone at the bar to each other so you quickly get into conversations and get to know people, oh and he knows how to make a good cocktail - try the Brandy Sours, very Greek and made with lemons from his own garden

Marco in the restaurant is a great manager, but all the staff are helpful and friendly at mealtimes. Katerina is a fantastic guest manager, always circulating and making sure everything is ok and sorting problems if they occur.

Overall it was a great break in a fantastic Hotel with friendly and helpful staff, and I would recommend it to anyone, we plan to return next year for some more special treatment !
