“Vintage 1980's”
Reviewed November 4, 2009

We have stayed here several times because it is the best value hotel nearest to relatives we often visit. We get 2 connecting rooms with full english breakfast for a family of 2 adults and 3 kids for (negotiated) £90 - that's cheaper than the nearby premier inn but with the added bonus of a small pool. OK it is very dated, but it is so old fashioned it can almost be described as vintage 1980's. It is clean, comfortable and the staff are helpful and pleasant. It is NOT luxurious, interesting or gourmet.

Great location for exploring surrounding area. We had adjoining rooms which worked out great value. Breakfast better during week than at week end. Staff very helpful and friendly. Rooms clean and spacious. A nice relaxed atmosphere within Hotel and reception staff available to assist if required with travel plans.
Loads of pubs, cinemas etc within 5-10 mins. Quiet at night kids got to sleep. Swimming pool clean and great size.

We booked for the week end. The only thing I didn't like was the fact the party that was going on above our room didn't stop until1am. The music was so loud I thought they where in the room with us. After a long day It was hard to sleep through. The very big bed was Great and I am pleased we upgraded. We will go back.

Situated 15min drive from Wakefield town centre. The rooms are comfortable but in general this hotel is very dated. Decorated in the style of Crossroads (only thing missing was Benny) it lacked any kind of atmosphere. The staff in the bar area were friendly but young and inexperienced. The first night there we ate in the bar, the food lacked taste and imagination with only a basic menu. What this place needs is modernising, and I don't mean in the sense that I want to knock it down and replace it with a sleek glass structure but more in the sense that I don't think it's seen a lick of pain in quite some time. There is wireless internet available but given the hotel's gegraphical loation, semed extremly expensive at £9 a day.

If I was struggling to find accommodation in the area I would stay here again, as it wasn't of an unnacceptable standard, however having since found alternative cheaper and nicer accommodation it would not be my first choice.

It is OK for one night but but that is about it. In need of serious refurbishment. Room basic with battered furniture and a non working trouser press and very low pressure shower. It was booked for me but not a place I would choose if I were to return to the area. As a PS to this review I would add that most 2* hotels are better than this. The star ratings in the UK rarely seem to indicate the reality.

Stayed at the Cear Court as my normal Wakefield Hotel was unavailable. No great expectations of a typical business motorway hotel but even so I was disappointed. The valkue offered should have offered a clue. This hotel in terms of accomodation and rooms is definately not 4 satr. I have had better facilities in a 2 star hotel.

Reception bars and restaurant all OK, although the restaurant a little bright and strangely furnished. Food above average for this type of hotel.

The rooms however were a different story. Supposedly refurbed but tired.

Over priced internet access.

Inadequate TV placed strangley on an innaccesible floor stand, poor reception and even poorer choice of channels, terrestrial only.

Bizarre motion activated heating system which did not operate effectively, who throws themselves around to activate the heating in the middle of the night.

Extremely small single beds, very hard, felt like suvet and poor quality pillows led to a pretty sleepless night and an unpleasant experience bever to be repeated.

Book here only if desparate!

A venue booking firm I use warned me off this hotel, saying it wasn't very good, but with no other local hotels able to accomodate a conference I was organising, it left no choice.

The styling of the hotel is very odd and seems a bit 80's, but my room was a recently upgraded exec room with plasma telly and modern fittings. Couldn't get either the warm air a/c system or radiator to work, despite reading the instructions, but it wasn't cold enough to bother reception.

Bar meal was quickly served and good quality. Breakfast was served in a room which was so hot it was like being in an oven, and service was a bit chaotic, but hot breakfast was plated - so no need to queue at a buffet.

Overall, if you can get passed the weird styling, its a decent stopover for business. I wouldn't chose it for a holiday...
