I`m sure that, for many people, the idea of spending time on holiday in a stuffy, boring Museum will not appeal.
But please put such thoughts aside and consider a visit to this fascinating and educational little Museum only a few minutes walk from the centre of Hodonin.(Or you can drive straight to it and park right outside)
Run by enthusiasts, rather than as a business, this small Museum was a genuine revalation. We were the only guests at the time of our visit and were given a personal tour and commentary by one of the co-owners (sadly,we neglected to ask his name). As we cannot speak Czech,he gave our tour in flawless English. He explained the history of the Oil industry and of its relevance and progress/decline throughout the Czech Republic in a most entertaining and informative fashion, without once boring us or getting too technical.
Neither myself nor my girlfriend works in,nor has any links to,the Oil industry, yet we were both fascinated by his narrative. For those who can understand Czech, there is a lot of written information beside the photographs on the walls.
There are model oil rigs (with full size oil pumps, etc in the grounds outside),storyboards and equipment regarding oil exploration/extraction/firefighting etc...
The Museum is,truly, only small...but the information within it is fascinating and belies its size.
It is absurdly cheap for a ticket and WELL worth the money!!
If you are in the area, this little Museum is well worth the visit. It won`t take up too much of your time, but it will teach you a Lot about the Oil industry.
