The castle was recommended to me by my girlfriend that has stayed here before. I booked a night away for us for one night, and I wish I had stayed 2 or 3 nights instead. The castle is set on very picturesque grounds and a lake. The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. The food in the Sandstone restaurant was very good value for the quality that we received. The service was outstanding.

We stayed in a suite, and it was by far, the most luxurious suite I have ever stayed in. The breakfast was of the same standard as every aspect of our stay.

The castle has lots of rooms to relax by open fires and comfortable couches and this relaxing environment sets it apart from most modern hotels. There is no pool/gym and although they say you can use their sister hotel, it is in another county.

The hotel has some very good special offers for stays and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing break or to treat someone for a special occasion.

A wonderful castle set in beautiful grounds. We stayed for 1 night on a 'great rate'(55europp) which included a bottle of wine and late check out. The room was very spacious with lovely furnishings. The hotel has several reception rooms to lounge in with a quiet bar, perfect for relaxing and a bite to eat. Open fires and comfy sofas are in most of the rooms.
We had a fantastic table d'hote dinner in the sandstone restaurant (42 euro pp) The service was excellent, very attentive without being intrusive. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea (12euro pp) in one of the drawing rooms on the day we checked out. I was surprised at how much delicious cakes and sandwiches were included.
Note: there is no spa/ leisure centre but you can use the sister hotel at Kilronan castle but this is 40km away.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a special treat!

I booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my husband. We arrived early afternoon and were greeted at our car by a lovely man who helped us with our luggage. We were shown into a standard room at the front of the Castle. Although we didn't have a lake room, I thought the view was lovely. The room was decorated very well with antique furniture and the bathroom was nice and bright with under floor heating. Toiletries were very good.
We had the afternoon tea, which was great value at only 12 Euro per person. Then we took a stroll through the Victorian Walled Gardens that lead down to the lake. A great opportunity to try out my new camera.
Dinner in the bar was good. The bar staff were very friendly. We went for a stroll around the building. There was lots to see... the McGahern library, paintings and antique furniture.
I just wish we'd stayed for more than one night! I will definitely be back and have been recommending it to all my friends/family.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the castle

My wife and I have just returned from an overnight at Lough Rynn. Big mistake, we should have booked a full weekend. Having stayed here once before we wondered if it would be as enjoyable second time round. Once again it exceeded our expectations and must surely be rated as one of the most luxurious hotels in Ireland.
The log fires, magnificent walled gardens, beautiful accommodation and superb cuisine made this another visit to remember.
We will be back shortly. .

Room Tip: We have stayed in different rooms on our visits. There are no rooms I would not stay in.

Just back from a one night break with my Girlfriend at Lough Rynn, we needed a break from the hustle and bustle of Dublin and took advantage of a great offer the hotel was running. We had a room overlooking the lake in the castle itself, The hotel was an amazing castle experience but with all the perks of a modern hotel (eg air conditioning, heated bathroom floor, wifi, etc) Staff in every dept were very helpful and friendly. We had dinner in the hotels restaurant which was amazing, complimentary starters were sent from the kitchen, compliments of the chef, and the mains (Steak/salmon) and chocolate fondant desert were unbelievable. The waiter was very helpful and always seemed to check in with us at exactly the right time without being too keen.
Real value for money overall, shame there isnt a spa though, but we will return anyway...

A group of us recently spent a weekend at Lough Rynn and we all agreed that it is a place to remember. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated, all in an individual style and we were greeted with a lovely personalised welcome letter and petit fours. The bar, with its cosy sitting rooms attached is very welcoming and is the type of place where one can sit in and relax with a newspaper and a quiet drink but is also homely enough that you can enjoy a good chat and a laugh without looking over your shoulder or feeling like you are disturbing other guests.
This charming hotel and its grounds are full of character, and the staff certainly go the extra mile with little subtle touches that make this hotel stand out from the rest.
We ate lunch in the bar both days and the menu is very extensive, with something for everyone. I would recommend the afternoon tea, which is a special treat.
We ate dinner in the restaurant both nights and everyone in the group agreed that the food was fantastic!! The service, presentation and quality of food was second to none.
I would recommend Lough Rynn to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away, where top quality food and drink add the finishing touches to a fabulous hotel in a beautiful location, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We booked our stay here to mark our wedding anniversary.
The hotel is the beautifully restored home of the notorious Earl of Leitrim. The drawing rooms and bar are filled with paintings, antiquities and comfy sofas and chairs. Despite the opulent setting there was a delightful feeling of "come sit, relax, have a coffe or a drink, read a book, no rush" which was just what we wanted. We ate in the bar, not the restaurant, the food was good, although there was not quite enough of it for my hungry husband! The cocktails were excellent as was the bar service, friendly, welcoming and efficient.
Our room was in the nearby Estate Manager's house, the room was of average size and nicely decorated. The bathroom was small but not pokey. My only complaint, and I may be being very particular here, was that the bathroom mirror lights were missing bulbs and the shower tray was badly chipped a number of times. When staying in, and paying for, a 5* hotel I think these details should not be overlooked. It is a 2 minute walk from the Estate Manager house to the main building, this is fine other than very badly lit at night which we found very hazardous in the rain with cars coming and going.
The grounds and walled garden are beautiful, even in winter. The lake and river a timeless backdrop. Walks are well sign posted, and dry and usable even after all the rain we have seen recently.
All in all a good hotel in a scenic location.
