“Not cheap but good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

Called in for lunch following a search on Tripadvisor for food in the Garforth area. We were 1st through the door at 12:05. Welcomed immediately and given the choice of any table. Menus were with us by the time we had sat down. 3 Lemonades ordered (joys of being the driver in my case). As usual for this type of establishment they were expensive £2 plus each for 1/2pt. We chose meals from the lunch menu but were impressed with the steak meals. Prices are restaraunt for the steaks but its what they specialise in so should be good. 2 Spicy Chicken Schnitzels (bread pieces of breast to you and me) and a Gammon. The Chicken was lovely served with fries and a pot of beautiful slaw. Gammon was beautifully tender, served with egg and fries.
All in all 3 very nice meals with a total bill of about £29 inc drinks. We will be back when in the area again.

“Surprisingly Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

It's been a long long time since i've been in The Old George. Back then, sometime in the 80's, it was just a fairly plain pub doing food. Decent enough but nothing special. In the thirty odd years since i've driven by it a number of times without any cause to drop in. Then a visit by my ex-pat brother to Leeds (he lives in the south) caused us to take my father and his wife, both with fairly conservative food tastes, and living a mile or so away, in there.

The interior is really nice. Modern but still inviting and i'd forgotten just how big the place is. I found the service was immediately good from the front of house to the bar, as we waited for others to arrive, to the table service which was first class.

The place was doing a good trade on this Sunday and many of the tables were occupied. We were seated upstairs and I had a slight concern that we might be "forgotten" but, to the contrary, I could not fault the attentiveness of our waiter. Choice of food is very good indeed with a number of steak selections. Everything which came to the table was of a high standard and cooked well. The wait for well cooked food is not so quick but just about right.

Desserts and coffee (good) out of the way we paid our bill (reasonable) and were off. A very enjoyable Sunday lunch. No - not a carvery but there are plenty of those - but an excellent standard of food and service.

“Great steaks!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2014

Arrived a little early (table booked by friends) and were immediately shown to the table by helpful reception.
Waiter was a young man named Callum and was as good as anyone would want throughout the whole meal.
All four of us chose steak but each one different type.

Each was cooked to perfection and all accompaniments were first class.

The sauvignon Blanc was good quality and about the going rate pricewise.

An excellent evening which passed too quickly.

Will definitely go again and there was much parking for a bad weather night so unlike the Leeds city centre we did not struggle to park and pay!!

One of the best meals of its type we have experienced.

“Half-hearted service, would be nothing without the quality food!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2014

On our visit to the Miller & Carter in Garforth, we left hugely disappointed.

On arrival we had to wait for five minutes before being greeted at the host stand. And since one member of our party of five was yet to arrive we were frostily invited to wait in the bar. When our party was complete, armed with drinks from the bar we decided to head through the restaurant as opposed to waiting for a further five minutes to be seen to. We were given menus on seating but had to ask to see the 2 course set menu which was heavily advertised both inside and outside the venue.
Having ordered food, we waited patiently. My sister's starter portion of nachos arrived although there was no sign of my Dad's bread and olives. A further 10 minutes passed by and still no bread and olives (by now my sister has almost finished the nachos). When the waitress appeared we enquired about the whereabouts of the starter and were assured they were on there way. 10 minutes later and the starter turned up with no apology for the wait.
By this point the three of us who hadn't had starters were starving! We eagerly awaited the main courses and I cannot deny that they didn't disappoint. The seabass is to die for as I know too are the wide array of steaks offered. The sweet potato wedges are worth upgrading to too!
Obviously the mains were wolfed down because we were so hungry considering the wait. Desserts were on the cards. Sadly the waiting team were more concerned with leisurely clearing an empty table nearby than they were clearing out empty plates. Indeed their lack of attentiveness cost the restaurant several drinks orders during our visit as we sat with an endless number of empty glasses scattered around the table with no offer of a top up. As for the desserts, one chocolate brownie portion is substantial enough to feed five! Certainly no need to order one each, they were far too sickly to attempt to finish.
On presentation of the bill we found a number of items that we had neither purchased nor ordered. My mum had to query this but they were eventually taken from our check.

Overall, the half-hearted service really let the Miller and Carter down because the main courses are delicious and worth every penny. In future we may try the Leeds restaurant in hope of finding more attentive, friendly staff to accompany the high standard of food.

“Always a nice ambience and consistently good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

We have dined here numerous times and the food as always been tasty, well presented and good value. The service is efficient and the restaurant has a nice, relaxing ambience, whether day or evening. We can recommend this dining experience as good value for money at all times.
