“A Room with a view and Lidder gurgling by”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2013

If you're looking for a “stay in the mountains within the warmth of a room” then Mount View in Pahalgam is the place you should be headed to. Book yourself a family suite, like we did and you’ll be lucky to wake up in the morning surrounded by snow covered mountains on three sides.

However, be prepared for budget hotel facilities although the rates are not budget ( but everything in Kashmir is far more expensive than other places) but the breathtaking views more than compensate for it.
We visited Pahalgam in November and since the temperature plummets all of a sudden at night, ensure that you’re provided with an electric blanket.

The location of the hotel, uniquely provides you with the best of both – natural scenery and yet located a stone’s throw from the market.

The hotel infact, sits right next to the River Lidder. If you're here for more than one morning, then you must go on a little adventure . Go on a walk along the river banks. Run down the steps next to the hotel’s garden and you’ll find yourself on the path frequented by the locals. Enjoy the towering mountain ranges, as I did while photographing the river as she gurgles along the sides of the hotel.
Make it a point to spend some time in the garden . While some early risers do their exercises , I took the opportunity to click the mountains in the background with the beautiful flowers of the hotel in the foreground of my camera frame.
The food is wholesome and nothing fancy but since we were not expecting much we were fine.

As the hotel caters to large tourist groups as well, buffets are quite common here. It helps to fix a package in advance with meals included ( especially in the off season when you can hope to drive a hard bargain).
Since we enjoyed Pahalgam so much, the snow at Chandanwadi, the picturesque Betaab valley and last but not the least the meadow at Beisaran valley, was memorable.

I must tell you, that one of the plus points for opting for this hotel is that “ponywallahs” pick up and drop you right from the hotel doorstep.
Step out anytime from the hotel during the day or in the evening, for a round of shopping. The quality of things whether woolens or papier mache items in this market are far better than what you would get in Srinagar.
In all it was a memorable stay at Mount view. I would definitely recommend it to fellow travellers but with the caveat that don’t expect the moon and you shall be pleased.

Room Tip: Suite rooms are large , spacious and have double benefit of views of the mountain peaks and river

Stayed here for 04 Nights in the Month of November as a part of a group ,

Good Location , near the main market , but feels removed from the hustle - bustle that usually comes with such a location , right next to the riverside , with good riverside lawns and gardens

Decent Neat and Clean Rooms , however only opt for the ones facing river side / garden for better view , and also they are the only ones that are most recently renovated , the bathroom although clean , can tend to feel a little run ( read cement scraping of the walls , plaster work done hastily to keep bath fitting in place , scratches basins etc )

Food was a disappointment , although the food was good & wholesome and some dishes were delicious , they have a very funny approach towards Dinner and lunch , for example for all the 4 Night , they had a Veg Tomato Soup & Dal & Rice , it would have been good if they had variated the dishes , as by the n end of the 4th night i preferred to go hungry rather than have the same thing , which by the way looked stale.

Service will be given with a smile , but only if you tip them well , and unlike other places , they brazenly ask for a tip and even argue if they are dissatisfied with the amount paid , this actually beats the point of giving tips, as it is the prerogative of the guest to decide as per his wish , and sincerely hope that the management takes some action on this

the hotel is brazenly overpriced , although after having extensively travelled in kashmir , it was observed that most things in kashmir are overpriced especially the hotels , so there is no concept of value for money , during off season they charged us Rs 5000 a Night , i shudder to think of the prices during the summer season which is the peak travel period , for the kind money we paid , we would have definitely being able to book a luxury resort , say in Shimla / Manali etc

In all wouldnt reccommend the hotel, its not value for money and at times can feel a little run down , pay slightly more and go for grand mumtaz , heevan , hill top etc , or pay less for the same kind of services with hotels like baisaran , abhsar , natraj ( which are just a stones throw away from mount view .

Room Tip: take the river facing rooms at the far end of the property , and preferable on the higher floors to...

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is centrally located close to the market.
The view from the room is magnificent !!!
You can get a superb view of the Lidder river and the snowcapped mountains from the room.
The hotel lawn has a few chairs where one can relax and enjoy the sound the river flow..
Central heating was turned on between 6:00 to 10:00 in the evening and 7:00 to 8:00 in the morning.
We had taken room with breakfast and the breakfast was pretty decent.
There are plenty of options to have vegetarian food outside the hotel..
One surprising thing was that hotel charges for their activity room which has pool table, billiards table, table tennis and carrom facilities...
Also everyone in the hotel asks for tips starting from the luggage guy, restaurant people, room service.. and the worst part is that even when you give, they expect more.. Infact the room service guy returned the Rs. 50 tip amount saying it was too less... Probably the hotel management should look in this matter.

Overall a great experience staying in this hotel !!!

Room Tip: Choose a room nearing the libber river. It has a great view of the river as well as the snow capped...

the location of this hotel is excellent . very centrally located , easy accessibility to market .yet the rooms have excellent view facing the Lidder river . choose the suite room for best view . three sides of the room are surrounded by large glass panes which offer excellent view of the mountain . when u get up in the morning it feels u have risen between a cradle of the mountain.
the food is average but the staff service is good . accesibility to ponies and taxis is good .opt for a room o the first for top floor . this is a good value for money hotel !

been there a year back in feb. The view from the room was simply awsome. The hotel had an ethnic kashmiri touch to the decor. No problem was encountered regarding room heating. The hotel staff was also very friendly. The food was not that great, in fact its better to stay there and have your lunch and dinner from outside. Stay in any of the 2nd floor rooms for a scenic view of the pahalgam river and the snow capped mountains.

Recently been there. I was staying in Kashmir for almost 3 months by the time I stayed there. It is very modern still maintains the charm of being in Kashmir. It is in the market but one does not get disturbed by the hussle & bussle of the shops. Because of its location one can opt to walk around local places very easily. Food was also good too. They have facility for Body Massage, only for men. It should be made available for all. The lawns of the hotel is very ideal place for unwinding. It is just next to the Lidder river. Beyond the river all mountains. No disturbance. One can practise Yoga , Meditation. I tried and to meditate while enveloped in the natural beauty is out of the world experience.

Room Tip: First floor is ideal. Rooms above reception area have very nice view of hotel lawns and mountains be...
