“annexe had a nice view upstairs, but was bare minimum accomodations”
Reviewed September 7, 2011

We thought this would be a nice place, but it smelled bad inside especially the bathroom. The room did not come with towels, soap, or even toilet paper. The beds in the bedroom were twins and squeeked a lot when moved on. The futon in the living room was uncomfortable and mosquitos bit the heck out of us if we left the window open at night. The sand on the beach hurts your feet to walk on and too many smokers stunk up the outdoor areas. The food was so so, nothing to write home about. The waiter was nice. The front desk staff were nice until there was a problem, then they were pushy and rude especially when I asked for a roll of tp. They need to disclose the needs of an apartment to American traveleres before we arrive. We've rented apartments in Paris and Prague and they even came with soap and tp. The store down the street was good as was Restaurant U Castellu, but if you hate smoke, sit inside. The smokers are disgusting. They act like it is part of their stinkin meal and it sucked big time. I would not recommend the annex at all. Stay in the hotel and eat somewhere else if you have higher standards of eating. The wine they charged 25 Euros for, I found it in the store for 7 euros. The views were really pretty of the waterfront by the Citadel, just don't stay in the annex. Also, the old lady at the front desk told us the wrong time for breakfast and so we never got it, they didn't charge us though. And, their sign at the front says they speak English, but nobody at all speaks one word of English, so be prepared to know a lot of French.

Dear Mrs,

I assure you that your complaint is being taken seriously, however this does not concern the hotel Beau Rivage but the apartment accommodation we offer clients who specially request them. the renting of these apartments does not include the hotel service. we informed you of this when you made your reservation.
The apartment accommodation does not cost as much as staying in a hotel room but I might add that we have, all the same, afford certain facilities wich are not included in the price.
You were also informed that if you wished to have breakfast at the hotel it was served between 8H and 10H. You cam at 10H45, at with time we set the tables for lunch. You could have gone to pour bar terrace and had a leisurely breakfast right by the seaside.
As far as the furniture of the apartments is concerned, this is renewed on a regular basis when esteemed necessary.
I am sorry that your stay did not meet up to you standards but it seems that you were excepting a 4 star hotel service, included in the price of your apartment accommodation and with would have been much more expensive. Moreover, our family run hotel is only a 2 star hotel.

Best regard.

We loved the hotel. It was very clean. We had a very nice waiter (we went for demi-pension).
He took an effort to speak to us in German. He explained everything patiently and with charme. The ladies at the recepiton were charming and efficient. When we said good-bye, they gave us a gift. I thought that was really nice. I have never stayed in a hotel so well situated. If you like the ocean, you like Beau Rivage.

Stayed five nights in June. Hotel is very well placed next to a lovely beach. The village is small but does have five restaurants. We booked very late and only got a room in the annexe- I am sure the hotel is better. Our room in the annexe was very plain but relatively spacious. The only negative comment was the door to the lavatory was hard to close because it was so small. The rooms were kept very clean.
We had the half board for three nights , which we could decide on each day and the food was good.
One date to avoid is the Festival de Musique which this year was the 21 June - we got to sleep at 04.30.
I would certainly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the hotel Beau Rivage in Algajola, Corsica for one week and chose to go half boad on their 'Bon apetit' option. The hotel is in a perfect location as it's right on the beach (a room with sea views is a must). The rooms are cleaned every day with fresh towels provided but don't expect too much on the decor side as the sea air means things are kept basic. We went half board but wished we were full board instead as the restaurants didn't offer much to write home about and the hotel food was very good.

We cannot recommend eating out at the expensive restaurants around the citadel. I was served a live caterpillar in the restaurant near the castle ruins, and we were shocked by our second eating out attempt where raw chicken was served on the same plate as cooked food and salad. The dish came with a hot stone slab from which to cook the chicken pieces - not for those with young children.
The best time to go to Corsica is the 1st week in september - when the schools are back.

We booked a room in the annex through Holiday Options but were allocated one in the main building. This was quite a small room, on the second floor, with no lift, but any minor niggles were more than compensated for by the wonderful views from the balcony.

The 'bon appetit' tarriff meant we had half board 8 nights and bed and breakfast on the other 6 during our two week stay. This was an excellent arrangement allowing us to explore the handful of local restaurants, which were good, but not be obliged to go out every night. Dining in the hotel was fine. Thee bar never opened during our stay but it was only a few metres walk to the nearest bar so this was not a hardship.

The place was clean and appeared friendly although not a lot of English was spoken and my French is functional rather than conversational!

Algajola was a pretty village with a fabulous beach although this was a little crowded in July. The train to Calvi and L'isle Rousse was regular but did stop too early in the evening to visit those places for a night out and we were advised that taxis were expensive.

If you were looking to explore and do a lot of sightseeing you would need to hire a car or stay elsewhere, but for a relaxing beach holiday I would not hesitate to recommend Hotel Beau Rivage and Algajola

very french hotel right on the beach, lovelly views, but seems to cater more for french than english.there was a bar in the hotel but it was always shut, they owned a bistro type place next door where you could buy a drink and walk back a few yards to the hotel to sit in the lounge with your drink! very quiet resort ,just a few cafes/restuarnts.we found it alittle too boring in the evenings,we resorted to sitting in our room watching french tv.!everybody seemed to retire early ,we dont like raving night life but a little entertainment of some sort would of been great.lovelly scenery ,we hired a car ,but beware everything everywhere was so expensive!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks in June 2007.We were very pleasantly surprised as the hotel had not been our first choice - in retrospect it should have been. Although the dinners were a set menu the standard was very high, service was excellent, and the view superb. Rooms are basic without minibars or safe but ours had A/C and electrically operated roller blind and was kept immaculately clean. We liked the system where we were free on alternate nights to eat outside at one of the many restaurants in Algajola or at the Hotel's own excellent a la carte restaurant.
The hotel is positioned right on the sea with safe bathing at beaches 100 m on either side.
