Badalona is already off the beaten track for tourists visiting Barcelona. But it's well worth the visit. A short trolley or bike ride from the center of Barcelona, there's a real feel in Badelona that you're "outside" of the city; a whole different beach-front vibe.
At the top of Badelona's high street, hidden in the back of a courtyard, you'll find "Mexicali," perhaps the best Mexican food in this corner of Spain. Owner/Chef Jose Luis welcomed us just as the restaurant was about to shut down for its afternoon break, and seated us for a three courses meal. The food was authentic: homemade tortillas, and flavors straight from the Mexican heartland. Jose Luis exlained that he had lived and studied in Mexico, graduating from one of its finest cooking schools.
What an amazing meal!: great hospitality and wonderful ambience... if you know Mexico, you'll feel like you've been transported back.
