“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2014

Recently visited Barcelona on a family holiday and choose to stay at the Renaissance Fira Barcelona Hotel.

Was sceptical at first about the hotel, but had a fabulous stay there - excellent hotel, good connections into town and the airport, modern chic hotel, very friendly and hospitable staff. The swimming pool on the roof top is a treat and so is the jacuzzi the floor below.

The train to the city centre and bus to the airport were great - cheap, quick and easy way to travel.

Kids loved being at the hotel. The breakfast is a relaxed and great experience - a fabulous spread laid out for breakfast.

The hotel staff were friendly and brilliant in service. Top marks to the hotel. Would love to be back at some point....

Room Tip: choose a room on the city side.

Stayed here one night in transit it was alright for convenience and was the closest to the airport. Super busy with business conferences the elevator was jam packed in the morning and crazy busy! The room was compact it was very new and modern. It was very bright white and minimalist. Functional and convenient Ikea across the street.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel was amazing with great service from all staff. The restaurant was also really very good.

The location does mean that you will need to travel to get anywhere, but Barcelona's transport system really is very good. There is a train station very close by which runs to Placa Espanya until midnight every night, and this connects to the very good Metro which also runs until midnight (later on Sat). There are then very good night buses which run regularly and are well used (hence safe).

We are very used to staying in the centre of Barcelona and I can honestly say the additional travel burden was not a problem at all - it just required a very small amount of pre-planning.

Hotel was pretty good, guestrooms very different - most of the rooms ALL WHITE - a little strange but some loved it and some not so keen. Well organsied room though and good shower/bathrooms. Meeting rooms were all good and the C&B staff were excellent - nothing was too much trouble - opening up rooms late at night to help. Food was very good. Perhpas location not great but then we were only there for an event,

We used this as a base for a 3 day event; the rooms are very unusual but comfortable. I'm told that they are either all black or white inside (I had a white one) and my colleagues who had black we're divided as to the opinion of being a a bit oppressive or not, so I guess it's personal choice.

The restaurant was lovely and the breakfasts were one of the best I have experienced on a business trip in a while. Having said this, if you are a vegetarian you will struggle, but that may just be the country and not the hotel.

The rooftop pool also should be checked out; it offers stunning views of the city in comfort and style.

One caveat is do not go to this hotel is you don't have a head for heights! The entire thing is a U shape with the middle exposed to the elements and a completely metal grill staircase. The elevators look out onto this interesting foliage covered space and again may turn your stomach of you're not that way inclined!

Excellent hotel for business and of you don't mind getting a taxi, it would be fine for personal couples travel also.

The overall design of this hotel is quite amazing and uses the space well. The deluxe room was a great fit for three of us and we like the modern touches. However, we did have two issues. With the way the lighting is, it was hard to see the glass walls. I ran into one in the early morning and got a huge black eye. My husband walked into the same wall 20 minutes later, even after knowing I did it.

Also, I wouldn’t recommend the location for tourist. It isn’t in walking distance to any of the top attractions and it is in a very convention oriented part of town. We stayed later in the week off of Passeig de Gracia and felt there was much more to do, especially for dinner at night.

We had a very early flight and landed at 10 am so we went to the hotel to see if they could store our hand luggage as check in wasn't until 3 pm, they were very helpful and gave us a room straight away. All 5 lifts were glass and moved quickly, I struggle with heights and got into quite a state, again they were very helpful and let me use the enclosed staff lift. Our room was all white and I mean ALL!!! Very minimal!! Bathroom had a large bath which was lovely to relax in after a tiring day. Toilet enclosed, felt a little like being in a box!! No wonderful views from the window and was out of the city, situated in the business area. So was very quiet at night. This has it advantages and disadvantages depending on what you wanted to get out of the trip. It suited us fine. The rooftop pool was closed due to high winds but we decided to go up to use the small indoor jacuzzi pool, I was expecting warm water but it was cold so my husband decided to give it a miss, I did sit in it for about 5 mins but wasn't very relaxing!! We wanted to go to a Barcelona FC match while we were out there and asked reception the best way to go about getting tickets. They said they could get them and arranged everything, they were even cheaper doing it this way!! Breakfast the first morning was very hectic due to all the business people so on further mornings we went down a little later so was more relaxed. Selection was adequate. Our stay overall was good and I must say the Staff were all friendly and very helpful.
