This is the place to come and relax.
Very hospitable and if you enjoy seafood, you are in for a real treat.
I would recommend this Inn to any person that can afford the time and favors the outdoors and/or the ocean.

This small hotel is one of the hidden gems of Clare county, Nova Scotia. It is centrally located in the major Acadian region along St. Mary's Bay, and has a magnificent view of the bay right across the street. Each room is a treasure of vintage furnishings, and the whole place is well kept. The restaurant offered one of the best meals I had during my stay in Canada: chicken soup that was just like what I make at home, scrumptious seafood crepes, and the best apple pie I've had anywhere (the hostess/waitress said it was baked by her brother).

We just returned from a 10 day driving tour around the Lighthouse and Evangeline Routes. Our fifth night second (May 31) was spent at the Au Have du Capitaine (the Captain's Haven Inn). Louise Comeau (owner) gave us a harborview room #15 located on the 2nd floor. This room had a queen size bed with a large sitting area overlooking the harbor, and nice size bathroom. Most rooms have beautiful quilts that Louise pieced and an elderly local woman quilted. Louise also has numerous quilts for sale and since my wife is a quilter, they had us going to several shops in the area. The Inn is pure Acadian and we were not disappointed. The food was quite good and more than reasonable. You should try the lobster and eggs breakfast @$9.95. Room cost - $99 +13%tax.We would definitely stay here again.

If you are heading toward Yarmouth, DO NOT MISS DJ's Rite Stop on Hwy 1 in Salmon River. This is the Acadian answer the 7-11s in the States. It is a hardware, paint, liquor, grocery store with a small diner on the side. Everyone was speaking French and eating an unusual looking dish. The locals eat here! Once a week one of the ladies cooks "RAPURE"; small plate is $5 and the large is $7, and it is absolutely delicious. If you're lucky when you stop, rapure will be the special of the day. My wife also raved about the homemade vegetable soup @$4.95.

I've stayed here the last five times I visited Nova Scotia. This hotel is owned and operated by Louise Comeau, a fascinating and charming woman who is very involved in all aspects of the operation of the hotel. The entire staff is personable and helpful. The hotel itself consists of 18 rooms, each room distinctive and distinctively furnished. There is a large lobby/living room in front with a fireplace and a huge window overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Terrific view of sunsets over the bay from this room or from the porch just outside this room. The hotel is not air-conditioned, but I've been here in July and August and have always been comfortable with the breezes that come across the water. Some (not all) rooms have a telephone and the hotel has wireless internet.

The reasonably priced full service dining room is very good, and Cafe Chez Christophe, locally famous is a seventeen minute drive directly up Rte 1.

This place has become the highlight of my annual trips to Nova Scotia. Everything just feels right here.

  • Liked — Beautiful Rooms, Very Comfortable Beds, Fantastic Staff
  • Disliked — I just wish I knew of something like this closer to home
  • Tips/Secrets — This place is a jewel, each room is different, and you can walk by the open doors to the vacant rooms and choose your own favorite.
