I had no trouble occupying an hour or more in this museum with its mammoth displays and extensive documentation of the regional and its natural history. It is quite permitted to take mammoth ivory out of Russia, but it was never clear whether it was an acceptable import into other countries: was it an endangered species, or because it is extent does its ivory count differently to that of elephant? Some of the ivory carving were outstanding but I chose to look and admire without buying.
