Actually, common German two-star hotel beats this Best of Yakutia lodging on any front. Too much pompa, too much glamour. But, actually, typical soviet "gostinnitsa", and nothing more. Rooms - nothing special, but towels ARE very aged. Water in system is "coloured" - yellow-red, thanx God not smelly.
Couldn't connect teapot. Half of electric sockets didn't work.
Restaurants. Prices - European, sizes - extra small.
Quality - good two-star hotel. Or, cheaper you'll find in hostel.

I stayed here for two nights and used it as a base to learn a little more about this centre of diamond mining, mammoth ivory and research, and building construction on permafrost. Hotel staff were friendly. rooms were clean, and communication was easy with minor Russian and with English. Walking around town was easy with the rectangular grid with a number of interesting churches and buildings to see..

We stayed in this hotel for one night during the business trip. It’s an amazing, with pretention to luxury hotel. Friendly staff, rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and breakfast was really good. We also came to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Italian food of course was not that Italian, but was good and tasty. Do recommend this hotel for a business trips.

Nice and clean 3 star hotel in the city center. Walking distance to the main square.
Service is ok and you can have local food for lunch or dinner.
Buffébreakfast with some local flavour.
When in Yakutsk remember to see the old parts. Very special wooden houses.

I had high expectations for this hotel because it is owned by ALROSA, the world's biggest diamond producer (before De Beers), and also operating commercial & private airplanes and a LENA cruise ship. In fact, the locals will rather know the North Star as the Polar Star or as the "Alrosa Hotel". I was terribly disappointed. The problem is the security personnel that ruins the whole spirit of the hotel. I assume that they are part of some kind of private army in Yakutia, and are powerful and above the law, but I don't care about this as a hotel guest. I want good service, like from the very friendly English speaking lady at the night reception. We arrived after midnight in our own car, at -50° C. The security didn't open the gate to the parking area, so I had to walk around, trying to find them. Nothing happened. Driving the big circle back to the lobby, the receptionist showed me the security center where some bored, unfriendly security people could see everything on screens, but hadn't bothered to open the gate for me. OK. Next try, they did open the gate, but not the inner heated garage (a must at -50°C !). A security guard was supposed to come out and open that door, but nothing, nothing, nothing. So I just left the car running in front of the garage and thought, let them sort it out themselves... (If you don't leave the car running, it will never start again, because of the cold). So, when finally making myself comfortable in the lobby for a drink, suddenly the whole security staff became hectic. Was this my car? Why I left it running outside, blocking the garage? why, why, etc. Big shouting in the lobby. Now I couldn't be bothered. I taught them to freak off and park the car for me. INFO: We are talking about a min. € 200 per night hotel here !!! The bar was ok. The room was ok. Problem with the shower: there was only hot water. I mean really hot. Unbearable, if you are not a lobster. In all fairness, I don't know the other hotels in Yakutsk, so the Alrosa may still be (among) the best in town.
