“Excellent Relaxing Place amidst the Lankan Jungles”
Reviewed June 13, 2010

We stayed here 3 nights and it was a WOW experience. The suite where we were staying was a awesome two storeyed building and was so private. The bed was real comfy , the bathrooms were huge and we couldnt have enough of this suite. The view of the lake from the verandah was a tad muted but still it gve us a feeling of being in the wild forest. We splashed aroudn a lot in the large pool and when we got ravenous feasted on the wonderful dinner buffet. The mornign walk amidst the wilderness ws memorable and so was the sight& sound of wild animals in the compund. The drinks were expensive but did we really care. The only area of improvement was probbaly the spa where the experience was below the standard of the rest of the hotel. Excelelnt place to completely chill out, espeically when its not too hot

Stayed here for 4 nights during our three week tour of Sri Lanka. If you are looking for a good, reasonable priced hotel, well placed for sightseeing, and you like the sights and sounds of nature, the Cinammon Lodge fits the bill nicely.
We had a superior room - which was a large, detached single storey building. We were very pleased with the room - although the cleanliness could have been better in some areas (the taps and glass surfaces looked as though they hadn't had a good scrub in quite a while!) The room had the smallest wardrobe we've ever encountered in a hotel, which was odd given the generous size of the room.
The hotel is in an ideal spot to visit the ancient sites of the cultural triangle. It is set on a beautiful lake and there's lots of wildlife in its grounds including monkeys, water monitors, birds, butterflies and squirrels.
The food was of a good quality (although it was luke warm, rather than piping hot).
We treated ourselves to a champagne breakfast by the lake one morning, which was very enjoyable.
We were at the hotel during the Sri Lankan New Year, meaning that it was packed and very busy during the first three days of our stay. It was particularly hectic and noisy around the pool during this period, however, on our last day, the hotel suddenly emptied, and the atmosphere completely changed and it became very tranquil.
Service was excellent throughout our stay.
Alcoholic drinks and wine in particular were expensive, even compared to the more upmarket hotels we stayed in during our trip.
The spa is one area that the hotel should concentrate upon improving, in terms of both the facilities and the staff training if it wishes to meet the expectations of international guests.

This is a very large hotel, but the setting on the edge of a large lake with huge grounds makes it seem a fairly quiet and relaxed place. The rooms are mainly in small groups spread around the grounds. Excellent birdlife and animals (giant squirrels, mongeese, monkeys, water and land monitors). you can also take various excursions to cultural sites (Polonnarua, Dambulla, Sigyria) and to wildlife areas nearby.
The rooms are varied: we had a deluxe which was fine although it had one or two awkward shapes and corners. However we were disappointed that the deluxe rooms were closer to the main hotel buildings and that the rooms with best views nearer the lake were only 'superior'. We moved to one of the latter, which seemed superficially similar, but turned out to be not so well maintained and older in style, with faulty aircon, taps, and not as well cleaned. Not sure if this was just bad luck, but I wouldn't go for a superior again. After one night in a deluxe followed by one in a superior, we upgraded to a suite which is on a different level altogether - absolutely enormous two storey building with excellent everything, including a butler.
The food at the hotel was very good. There is an enormous buffet for breakfast and dinner, with a la carte options as well. We don't normally like buffet style, but this was of a very high standard, so we did not see the need to go for a la carte. The airconditioned pudding room was a very likeable but dangerous extra treat!
The hotel tends to get a lot of coach parties, which again is not the sort of thing we generally like, but the place seemed to soak people up without ever seeming too crowded or frantic. The staff were universally very friendly and helpful, as is generally case throughout this country.

We spent the first few days of our honeymoon here, and it was wonderful. The lodge surroundings were beautiful, and we found the staff to be very helpful. One of our favourite features was the vast variety of food on offer, and there was always a selection of chefs available to make the dishes of the day there while you waited (which only took a few minutes). There was also a dessert room, enclosed to keep the insects out, and all the desserts were under little lamp lights - very interesting - as though they were works of art (which some were).
We toured the cultural triangle from this base, which was ideal.
We also saw plenty of wildlife while we were there, but unfortunately we got badly bitten despite wearing insect repellent, so go well armed, the bites are hideous!!
The only other downer was that the room boy really hastled us on our departure for a tip for putting the flower messages in our room, but we had left a tip in the room which he didn't understand.
All in all, the pluses definitely outweighed the minuses, and we would definitely stay here again.

Perfect to relax in after a long drive to get to Habarana, location is great for Sigiriya and for doing an Elephant safari in the area too.
Rooms big and with well appointed bathrooms, food good and a good size pool. Also has nice gardens, would have loved to of stayed longer than a couple of nights.

The hotel was a 4 hour drive from Colombo but it was well worth it. The rooms was clean and spacious. The bathrooms were large and the rooms had all the accessries including a hair dryer which my wife liked.
The service was excellent and there was always 1 -2 people serving us when we were at the restaurant. At check in they had all my details already filled in and I had to do was sign.
For people who are into wildlife the Miniriha Elephant Park is about 20 minutes away (you can catch the jeeps from the top of the hotel or arrange it with the hotel itself - I suggest walking to the top and catching it). Also you can go on elephant rides and Sigiriya is just a 20 minute drive away.
The hotel is calm with monkeys and squirels running all over the place - simply peaceful! I definetely would come back to this.
