“Almost Perfect”
Reviewed June 25, 2009

The second stop on a ten day honeymoon trip, we picked this hotel as our stop for the sights in the cultural triangle (went for this as a second choice because the Kandalama was stretching the budget too far)

Arrived at dusk, and were immediately impressed by the greeting and friendliness of the staff, who always have a smile and a hello for you. The rooms are laid out across the large grounds and it is a challenge to reach them, especially at night, among the maze of pathways. Thankfully there is plenty of staff to guide you.

The room itself was fairly spacious, although our double bed was two singles pushed together. The bathroom was a little narrow but very well appointed.

There is a large buffet restaurant by the pool where most guests take their meals. There is a good variety on offer and much better than the a la carte option. Didn't venture to the Thai restaurant so cannot say how it was. Room service is a bit slow, better to make the trek to the restaurant(s)

There is also a small ayurveda centre attached to the hotel, where we went for massages. Quite relaxing after a hot morning climbing Sigiriya Rock!

Wifi is available but not free, and tea and coffee (and execrable cakes) are complementary by the pool.

The grounds are beautiful, and wildlife abounds, from squirrels that come to your breakfast table to a huge monitor by the lake.

Overall, a beautiful place to stay and not far from the main tourist sites in the area. Great pool and helpful staff. In hindsight we should have complained about the bed and changed rooms, but that was really the only false note.

This trip was a "Getaway from the city"- BREAK. These rooms are spacious and are extremely comfortable. The pool is huge and has a lot of space around it. The lodge has a very good service, good food, excellent rooms and variety of restaurants which serve different cuisine, it has extensive grounds with different wildlife and birds the room itself was adequate in size and decorated well. The beds were comfortable and above all clean. The Cupboard space was sufficient for few days stay, Bathroom was well-maintained & clean, Single sinks, good shower & toiletries, TV. Water and instant coffee & a selection of teas were complimentary.
My rate included breakfast and they buffet breakfast which had an enormous variety. Good variety of breads/cheeses/hams/cereals/fresh fruits/yoghurts/juices/etc.

tHe Reception and the hotel staff were friendly, professional and helpful and spoke english.
Would recommend for people going on honey moon too.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of our honeymoon. We were so impressed when we pulled up despite it being at night, the hotel and the lake is lit so beautifully at night, it was very romantic. We were greeted warmly with cold towels and a drink - it had been a 17 hour journey in total from London. Our room (no.38 in a superior villa style) was beautiful. The room was cleaned and turned down every day as promised and on the last night, beautiful flowers were left on the bed. We were in awe of the wildlife, we've never seen so many monkeys, birds, squirrels, igunas and even a water monitor lizard. The restaurant was great, the food was a great standard and we loved the chilled desert room! It was a great location for elephant rides, the eco park and the rock fortress. We were sad to leave such a great place with great service. Very nice staff. The only slight negative was that it was very quiet but I think that was more to do with negative tourisim due to the conflict and it was also the Sri Lanka new year. We would be back in a heart beat! Perfect for couples on their honeymoon

As we pulled up we were greeted by friendly staff, a fruity drink, and some local monkeys! The hotel grounds were beautiful. We spent one evening just walking around before dinner. The pool is nice. The food there is AWESOEME. There is a buffet including local food but also stations where chefs make dishes fresh for you. And the desserts have their own little air conditioned room. The staff was amazing and super friendly. They even arranged an elephant ride for us that was super fun. This hotel is central to many of the tourist locations.

This was the first place we stayed in Sri lanka, and it met all our expectations. The hotel is perfectly placed for touring the cultural triangle and is a great place to relax after a hard days sightseeing ! The service is excellent, as is the food which is buffet on half board, or you can try the Thai lotus restaurant which is in the hotel grounds and is also very good. The walk in chilled desert room is also a highlight !! Lots of wildlife in the grounds and elephant rides are available next door and these are very good as they take you around the lake as opposed to on the road. The rooms are very comfortable with big beds and good showers. A great place to stay !!

Conveniently located in the centre of the Cultural Triangle, made to grow with and into nature, Habarana Lodge is green hospitality at its best. As you enter Habarana Lodge, you will wonder why on earth this part of the country is referred to as the Dry Zone.
This place is a bird watcher’s paradise. Even in the relatively small space of 25 acres, a total of 138 bird species have been identified. Indeed, bird watching enthusiasts claim that a visit to Habarana is a must for any self-respecting ornithologist.
One can make delightful discoveries in over 27 acres of resplendent beauty, shielded by over 1700 tall trees, surrounded by three nature reserves – Ritigala, Minneriya and Kaudulla.
One can avail the prestige of elephant safaries thru these lakes which is a birdwatching great experience.

This is just too irresistable a place! Be there for a week atleast in Nature's lap!
