I stayed at the Cinanamon Lodge while touring Sri Lanka with a group of colleagues. The quality of the hotel rooms, service provided and the grounds were totally unexpected in the middle of the jungle. Nice pool, good restaurant, nice bar. There were ants in the room but, hey, there are monkeys outside the door. This is the jungle!!! The villas are spread over a sizable area but not too spread out to think twice about running back to the room. Breakfast was a bit disappointing but was really ok. Free wireless Internet was a perfect addition to a great stay. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a villa nearer to the restaurant

This hotel is really good. The accommodation is well laid out in the development and not in anyway crowded. The staff could not do enough for us and made us feel special. We stayed in a deluxe room for 3 nights and it was a total relax. The rooms were spotless, and well proportioned. The whole complex is excellent and while you relax you can watch the wildlife all around the pool and bar areas. The food was just great with the chef's only too happy to try and explain the ingredients of the food prepared. They even have a chilled room for the deserts - which are just brilliant. Too tempting.

On arrival we were greeted with drinks and cinnamon smelling towels to relax. The bags were removed from the vehicle for us and delivered to the rooms with no trouble. The rooms were both exceptionally clean and well equipped even down to the multitude of plug sockets for different plugs. Different pillows were offered in order to get the best nights sleep and air conditioning was fully functional and kept the whole room cool.

Towels and bedding could be changed daily and top ups of any refreshments and bathroom accoutrements could be had at any time.

The pool was lovely and towels were provided quickly and efficiently and a range of drinks and snacks could be ordered with ease while lying in the sun or shade.

The food was amazing and had such a vast range everyone would be catered for. There was aslso a separate room for desserts which held beautiful fresh fruits and lovely puddings and chocolates. The staff were fantastic taking us around each dish for allergy reasons whenever we asked.

There was a play area for children, or adults who are still child like, and amazing views around the lake with a tree house to climb.

Elephant rides could be arranged and in room entertainment and food was no problem for the staff.

I would go back to any hotel from this chain in a flash as I was so impressed with the level of service as well as comfort available.

Room Tip: Monkeys can be around so make sure you don't leave things outside and shut the room door. Both...

What a beautiful place Cinnamon Lodge is. We chose to stay for seven nights here to make a change from just a beach holiday. Most guests stay a night or two as part of their Sri Lanka tour but the longer stay meant that we got to know the staff a bit better. We were treated very well from the moment we arrived.

We had a deluxe room which overlooked the lake, very comfortable with an impressive range of complimentary toiletries and ayurvedic balms, an in-room safe and iron/ironing board, and so much more than I can list here. The bathroom was large, with a separate walk-in shower in addition to a bathtub. There were only two small criticisms of the room: firstly, that it would have been nice to have had the outside furniture on the verandah overlooking the lake, rather than on the other side of the building, in order to take advantage of the peaceful setting & pretty view; secondly, the scatter-cushions and runner from the bed were put on the chaise in the sitting area and stayed there for the duration of our stay which meant that our seating was reduced, not a huge problem as we didn’t spend too much time in the room.

The grounds of the lodge and around the lake abound with wildlife; monkeys, monitor lizards, squirrels, mongoose, plenty of birds – I could go on! There is a butterfly garden within the lodge’s own farm, which certainly kept me and my camera well occupied, and the gentleman who is in charge of this is incredibly knowledgeable about the different plants, birds and species of butterfly. The pool was superb, large and cool, and mostly very quiet (like the rest of the hotel) unless, as when we were there, a corporate event was being held. Unlike another reviewer, we found the pool guys very helpful and polite, just like the rest of the staff.

The food in the Ehala restaurant was incredible, all of it so tasty, good quality and such a variety. The chefs were only too willing to tell you what was on offer and show you around the various stations. The chilled dessert room was so beautiful and I’m so mad with myself because I was going to ask for a ‘doggy bag’ of their coconut macaroons and marshmallows when we left but I forgot. For our ‘last supper’ we were treated to a six course meal at the Lotus restaurant, very special with top class food and service.

We booked some activities through the hotel, all at a reasonable price. They offer safaris to the three national parks nearby, elephant rides, excursions to the historic sites, amongst others.

I’m glad we stayed longer than most, we were really able to take advantage of the peaceful surroundings, the great facilities, and enjoy the superb hospitality that the staff and management provide. As the first hotel of our two-centre stay in Sri Lanka, it spoilt us for the second hotel at the beach. We knew then we’d been privileged to spend time at Cinnamon Lodge, a big thank you to everyone, both those who helped by email before we arrived and those while we stayed, who made our time so special.

Room Tip: The rooms are scattered around the grounds. Whether superior or superior/deluxe, they weren't c...

I can't recommend this hotel enough.
Ambience is fabulous. You feel like you are walking through a regal palace belonging to the ancient kings. There are monkeys swinging from vines and jumping into the water like playful kids. The pool is amazing - clean and so warm!
We stayed in the most basic room, and were SO pleasantly surprised. It was huge! And had everything we needed (except the DVD player - but who is there to watch DVD's, really?). Everything had a new but incredibly tasteful feel to it. It wasn't garish and ugly. The foyer blended into the surrounds like a colonial masterpiece.
Service was spot on. Can't really fault it. The staff at the tour office especially went out of their way to help amend the wrong doings of an outside jeep safari driver (which had nothing to do with the hotel, but they felt so sorry for us, they did everything possible to bring a smile back to our faces).
Food was authentic, varied and tasty (and didn't have the excessive amount of salt that some places in SL can have). Service in the restaurant was really well done. We were attended to immediately, checked on frequently (by different staff members), our glasses were never empty for longer than 20 seconds, AND they had the healthiest option for sri lankan food on offer (red rice - high fibre, mukunuwanna kedda - high vitamin herbal porridge for breakfast) - which is such a refreshing change to things swimming in oil or ruined in the deep frier.. Oh - and you will put your diet aside when you see the whole ROOM set aside for desserts. The home made woodapple ice cream with some toasted cashews is amazing.
I would definitely recommend this, and it certainly offers really good value for money - especially when you compare it to other places in the vicinity.
I'll be coming back for sure.

Room Tip: Book on the online sites like agoda.com etc You'll be surprised how similar it is to the local...

It was my second visit, previously some years ago only for a buffet lunch - I remember how we enjoyed the spread. This time was a treat from my husband, a late birthday celebration....
As I remember things have improved in maybe tenfold and I would go back again and again. This is the place to be if you are looking to truly relax and forget all the hustle of your daily chaos. I really like the tastefully done rooms and the way they are located providing maximum privacy and seclusion. Plenty of activities to keep you occupied and to relax. I enjoyed cycling in the premises, something I have not done in ages…… The hotel organize elephant rides which is a must do and a experience in its own. Its amazing to ride the giant elephant and while doing that we could treat it with yummy bananas….
Food and other facilities are value for money and the surrounding of the hotel is beyond words. Its only a couple of minutes drive to witness the gathering of elephants.
Not stopping from providing us with all, when we checked out we were given a carry bag with delicious munchables!

Room Tip: Best is to ask the staff according to your requirement!
