Chaaya Village in Habarana was our start to out 8 day tour in Sri Lanka. This hotel is central with Sigiriya and elephant safaris near. The rooms are great, the staff are friendly, the food is good however tops has to be the pool and the eco- friendly component to the resort: elephants at the river, monekys, squirrels, monitor lizards, amazing bird life- true relaxation.

This was mine and my husbands first hotel on our honeymoon in Sri lanka and it didn't dissapoint.

After a gruelling 26 hours travelling we were met at the reception by the very friendly staff with cold towels and a cooling drink which was very much needed!

We had a standard bungalow which was lovely. Very big bed and a lovely shower/wet room. There was quite a strong smell of damp in the bungalow but this didn't bother us too much as everything seemed clean and what do you expect in such a humid climate! Our sheets and towels were changed every day.

The pool and the grounds are what makes this hotel so special. The pool is a very unusual triangular shape and there are steps leading down which get deeper. It is very clean. The gounds surrounding the hotel are lovely, you will see monkeys and lizards roaming around and plenty of birds, there is an impressive lake infront of the hotel as well. It is very laid back and is very tranquil.

The food was lovely...plenty of choice. I highly recommend the Sri Lankan curries...so tastey. The service was excellent...as we came to expect in Sri Lanka!

All in all the best hotel we stayed at in Sri lanka. Big thumbs up!!

Absolutely lovely setting with wildlife around you. We stopped at this resort as part of our trip around Sri Lanka. The pool was wonderful to relax at. We went on the "nature trail" with an expert around the hotel which was interesting. The monkeys run around you, you can hear the elephants as they have their baths - wonderful experience.

Sri Lanka as a whole was the top of our 'A' list of places to go and it far exceeded our expectations.

We booked our trip through Kuoni's Sister Company - The travel Collection and this was a painless excercise, these guy's were so helpful.

The Chaaya Village is very clean and the grounds are well meantained. Lots of wildlife, Geko's, Monkeys, Elephant....Good Laundry service, reasonable prices. The food is excellent and there is a wide variety of things to eat from Curry (even at Breakfast) to regular meat & Fish dishes, great selections of fruit & cereals, yogurts etc at Breakfast.

Comfy, large Beds good pillows, aircon.

We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and our room was kept lovely and clean during our visit, fresh towels every day and there were some lovely designs made on our bed with rose petals and towels.

The village was kept clean an tidy and it was a pleasure to be there. Was a great base to see the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka.

If you are offered guide as part of your package, go with it, our guide 'Tikka' added so much to our holiday.

There are treks on elephant in the plantattion just behind the hotel which are fantastic fun, was a highlight for me.

Chaaya Villige itself is close to Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is a must see. Excursions can be booked through the hotel

Beware if people outside of the hotel offer to do anything for you, guide you somewhere or take a photo.....you will be asked for money it is how things are out there..so always make sure you have plenty of loose rupie to hand. Don't let this put you off as it all adds to the experience of being in a foreign and beautiful land.

Enjoy......

We stayed in Chaaya Village over christmas for 3 nights as part of a tour of Sri Lanka and Chaaya was the best hotel we stayed at. The rooms are chalet style set in gardens around the bar/restaurant/ reception area and are imaculately clean with a/c and as a wonderfull touch the room boys decorated our Kingsize bed with flowers when we arrived and departed. The food was first class with authentic Sri Lanken dishes as well as more conventional fare. To top it off there is a great pool to relax by. The hotel grounds are amazing with so much wildlife, loads of monkeys, lizards, squirrels (watch out they pinch your food if you dine outside) also in the grounds is a tree house beside the lake a great spot to watch the fish eagles and other birds. Also behind the tennis courts is small jetty this is a great spot to see the working Elephants from Habarana village get ready for a days work and watch the locals washing clothes ect. For a small fee they will take you for a ride on the elephants along the lake if you walk round into the village. We went as part of a tour organised by KUONI an we was allocated a car and driver/guide from Walkers in Columbo our guide was called APK HARRISHANKA he was fantastic with good english. He put us right in the action amongst wild elephants and spotted deer and timed our temple visits to perfection you could do worse than request him

I stayed here when I was on a group trip to Sri Lanka and what a lovely place. The room was immaculate and the decorations on the bed in the evening was such a nice tough. The staff were attentive and the surroundings ideal. You can't fault the service and the buffets were delicious with alot of choices to suit everyone's need. Stayed here for 3 nights and could have stayed longer. They also arranged a fishing trip which was fun and interesting. I would recommend this place to anyone. Thanks again.
