“Recommend staying for rooms, service and food”
Reviewed March 13, 2014 via mobile

We stayed as part of a tour for two nights. The hotel has a rustic safari atmosphere. The rooms were excellent with good showers. The food in the evening was buffet style and was excellent with a choice of local or international dishes. Breakfast was also really good. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

Swimming pool was good but the water looked a green but might be the colour of the tiles.

Internet was free and worked well albeit a bit slow at times.

We stayed here for a couple of nights during our tour and enjoyed our stay very much. We were initially given rooms away from the lake which had no outlook and were rather dull. However, on request, we were moved to lake view rooms which were lovely. The bar, food and facilities were very good and we would have been happy staying longer.

I say a hotel of 2 halves as the food is great but the accomodation is poor, the rooms are very basic and unispiring -no frills or fancies-no rugs on the floor-just bland, you can sit outside your room but the view from ours was a tree in a triangle of soil which was full of dead leaves, the walk to and from the dining area in the evening can be a little dangerous as the lighting is poor -so my advice is to take a torch- however the food is lovely-buffet style fpr both evening meal and breakfast- I was very happy that we only had 1 nights stay here I could not have coped with more

As part of a Sri Lanka tour, my wife and I visited the Chaaya Village for 2 nights. The hotel is unique in a sense that it is a number of semi-detached and detached huts scattered around the forest. The hotel is lovely and rooms, although not the best, were suited to the area. We were in a detached hut as it was our honeymoon. The restaurant was 'tourist friendly' as there was both local and international cuisines. There was live music of an evening, but this was somewhat repetitive. Staff were very friendly throughout the hotel and it always seemed clean - despite being in the middle of a forest! There was even a resident monkey who was always pottering around the 'a' rooms which was fun to see. The restaurant overlooks a lake and just beyond that were elephants which was a pleasant sight. Overall I was impressed.

Room Tip: Having a detatched hut is great - like your own little bungalow in the jungle.

This was our first hotel of our trip, we were meant to be in the Cinnamon hotel. Next to this one but under the same management. The hotel is single storied with the rooms all fanning out from the small reception area. The rooms are large with a large comfortable bed. All very basic but plenty of hot water and a good shower. Unfortunately our room smelt of damp and was not very clean with stained cushions on the bed. The room was cleaned the next day. But the room and bathroom has an unfinished quality to it.
The food is very good with plenty of choice at the buffet. Especially if you enjoy curry! And deserts!
The alcohol beer wine etc is well priced.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
Hotel is well placed for visiting all the tourist places as mentioned.
Reception was very slow!
If you are ordering a take out breakfast make sure to remind reception and go and collect earlier , as it is often forgotten about.

Room Tip: Ask to look over the lake as most look into each other

A very good hotel. Efficient, polite staff. Pleasant grounds by Habarana Lake, a decent swimming pool, lovely terrace area next to the restaurant. The whole setting is delightful.
Our Deluxe room overlooking the lake was very spaceous, high ceiling, well appointed and everything worked though the air con was very noisy as was the ceiling fan. Fortunately the night temperatures were comfortable enough to negate the need for either to be used whilst we were there.
The restaurant facilitates both inside and outside eating. Breakfast was excellent with just about everything you could possibly want. Similarly the evening buffet was of a very good standard. Neither of us are buffet fans but when it is of this variety and quality, it is a very good option.
There is a pleasant lounge area for evening relaxation though the cane chairs are very awkward to sit in and lack any comfort factor. Goodness knows who they were designed for? Background, evening music entertainment on our two evenings was very good.
Overall, you cannot go wrong with booking this hotel, strongly recommended.

This hotel was a 20-minute walk from my hotel in Habarana and I enjoyed sitting in very deep relaxing chairs for a Lion lager (500Rs) overlooking the swimming pool. I moved 10 yards to a proper table to enjoy an a la carte dinner and was very pleased with my mango chicken (750Rs) one of several curries that came with the dish. This hotel didn't match Cinnamon Lodge but it was a bit cheaper and I still enjoyed my evening very much.
